There will be a Rubicon model with Dana 44s, lockers, swaybar disconnects, 33s...will shyte on most dual cabs then in most off-road conditions. Definitely a lifestyle rig. Nice.

Some more info on it. Can’t wait to test out the V6 diesel Rubicon. http://www.trucktrend.com/news/1811-...ckup-revealed/

Sounds like you not only got out of the wrong side of bed, but stubbed your toe, spilt your coffee over the centre console, scraped your wheel on the gutter, got cut off by a mum in a Ranger and your card got swallowed by the ATM on the way home..... |

You don't Buy one of these to be practical round the streets, but saying that it looks perfect for a lifestyle rig.
I like - especially with the V6 diesel

Kinda stupid, as in pointless, or out of proportion, with its long wheel base and rear over hang?
If they bring the 3.0 diesel down here in Rubicon spec I will buy one. None of the current dual cabs appeal to me enough to justify their purchase price. Jeep will be mad to not release the bigger diesel in this market considering the popularity of the double cab ute, and currently they can claim the highest output of the lot. That will probably change come 2020 when its suppose to be released. I had a JK Rubicon and it was an absolute beast. Regret selling it. This seems to fix everything that was wrong with the standard Wranglers... small cramped interior load space, thirsty petrol with limited fuel range (when pushed hard/low range or running lift/winch bars/anything over 33s), small tow rating - 2.3tonne. Wider track and longer wheel base should make it ride better too. For most people it will be a more practical vehicle than what its based off IMO. |

It does look a little strange, but I think a black one with a nice canopy will look tough as.
Add a few aftermarket mods that many Wranglers have, like a nice bullbar and I think it will look great. |

Jeep to pitch Gladiator at the higher end -
https://www.goauto.com.au/news/jeep/...-30/76705.html “I can’t get into pricing but we do not see this as a low-end type of a vehicle,” he said on the Jeep stand. “With all the utility that it has and all of the things that it can do, we see this going after the higher end and really different buyers." Cant say I'm particularly surprised by this.

It would want to do better than the Wrangler it's based on. Especially considering most of it's competitors are 5 star.
https://www.goauto.com.au/news/jeep/...-06/76790.html One-star safety rating awarded to new Jeep Wrangler in latest Euro NCAP tests By RON HAMMERTON EUROPE’S independent New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP) has awarded Jeep’s new fourth-generation Wrangler a lowly one-star safety rating, saying it lags far behind its competitors on safety. In its comments on the adult protection crash testing, Euro NCAP’s engineers criticised the structural integrity of the Wrangler, describing the bodyshell as unstable. They said the join between the A-pillar and trans-fascia beam had been damaged in such a way that indicated it would not be able to withstand higher loads. The footwell, it said, had “reached the limits of its structural integrity”. In the offset test, driver chest protection was rated as weak, while leg protection was marginal. In the full-width crash test, the rear passenger protection was rated as poor – the lowest rating – while driver chest protection was marginal. |

I thought EuroNCAP was recently made a lot harder. Yes 1 star is bad. But I would be interested in knowing how many stars it would have been a couple of years ago. |

But the new tests are only harder because of the addition of passive safety systems like AEB, lane assist etc. The Jeep failed so badly because of the way it crumpled so badly. So it still wouldn't have done well. |

Those are active safety features. I’d still have one. I’d feel safer on the muddy or snowy trail in a Rubicon than a Volvo station wagon.

Yeah my brother was looking at one of these but the price has changed all that, you're going to be looking at close to $85K on the road for a base model.......Ridiculous money for what it is.

They sold 228,000 Wranglers in the US last year to which this car is a derivative of - I would probably disagree with this sentiment on that basis.

But then again everything jeep is like cancer here. Nobody wants it. Went from selling 30,000 cars a few years ago to less than 6,000 last year. Massive fall. |

When they released the updated Jeep Grand Cherokee they were everywhere, every man and his dog had one, now you hardly see them around anywhere, probably all already sitting in wreckers because every small maintenance item costs $26,000

With regards to Australian pricing, those prices are about what I was expecting. Having a petrol engine is certainly a differentiator but without diesel, this thing is going to sell in very small numbers.

I don’t really get the point of it. It’s fairly useless as a ute, cause it can’t carry much weight nor tow much.

Both utes, both have similar payload and towing specs (although this Jeep is rated to 3.5t and 800kg payload in the USA). I can see it appeal to existing Wrangler owners that like the concept, quirkinesses and off road ability but want a higher towing capacity and more space (normal Wrangler has pathetic load space). Or someone in the market for a Ute that is actually decent off road without a throw back to the 1980s in ride quality, handling, performance, ergonomics and equipment levels of the 70 series. Considering the current crop of high end Thai specials (Ranger Raptor excluded, by most accounts) are seriously over priced but don’t excel in any aspect, it is no surprise Jeep have tried to cash in on this overpriced emotionally driven segment. Disappointing it won’t be sold here with the V6 diesel, or Jeep couldn’t offer the Rubicon with the Hemi V8. |

they were asking for but now Jeep seems to be developing the Gladiator Mojave as a counterpoint for a future US Ranger Raptor. |
