Thats what this whole thread is about - people who are in it to save a few bucks and these BS clubs with no meetings and no events, using their 'historic' TF Holden Rodeo for tip runs or truck for work purposes etc.

Despite what state you live in, all cars are to be deemed road worthy. No club member/organisations can deem a car road worthy with out a valid RWC license. I see where Franco is going with this. Yes it sucks for the honest members to end up suffering for the few that do rort the system but it’s human nature to do so, how many can honestly say we’re not being rorted by governments in one way or another. I have a XB GT and when I approached the GT club to become a member I found their requirements not suitable for my needs. I wasn’t going to drive over an hour to attend meetings 4 times a year so I found a more suitable club. We don’t have the log book system in QLD yet, I hope it never comes in. It’s only a matter of time before the dodgy clubs stuff it up for everyone.

NOT TRUE! ALL POST 1949 vehicles MUST have a current RWC to gain access to the Victorian scheme!

i went to an informal meeting today ,(cars n coffee event) there were all kinds of ****box MG, holden , Austin ,Toyota , chev, fiat, leyland, citroen vehicles , and, one of my ford's on club permit scheme plates.
All passed roadworthy test , and all on vic club plates . if you think the club scheme is just for cheap rego on an old ****box , your 1/2 right , if you think club permit rego is for cheap rego , i think youre approaching it wrong. the first person i spoke to today as i was getting out of the car was a 10y.o(or so) kid , and he said "hello , can you tell me what year this car was made?" . 1976 , the year they made both XB and XC , i replied , he took it in , and i let him jump in , then had a yak to his ol man for 10 mins . the kid had a blast . Without the club permit scheme this car , and others like it would languish in sheds , never to be seen again . |

I get sickened when I see the rules being s t r e t c h e d like they are here in Victoria, on a recent trip to S.A. I saw about 3 older mobile homes on the CPS (club permit scheme - it shouldn't be called 'rego' coz it's not, you run on a permit), one was even towing a fully registered car on a trailer behind Victorian CPS vehicles are NOT to be used for hire or reward, that means carting grain or doing a wedding for a mate where there is an exchange of 'reward' (yep a bottle of Bundy). These people are playing within the rules Franco, but I agree it is **** They need to tighten up the 'classic' rules bit. My XP went on the CPS in 2010, its number plate is 07951, so that is the 7951st vehicle on the scheme, earlier this year they passed the 100,000 vehicle mark on the scheme so they had to come up with a new number plate system. So in the 9 years since I went on the CPS 93,000+ other vehicles have gone on (that is not counting the 'M' plated or the Hot Rod plated only the H plated) Police need to police it more, I had a long discussion with a close mate who is a HWP officer about the things he needs to watch out for, log books filled in in pencil, 'hire and reward' of some HV CPS holders. Brickies, plumbers, builders etc. 90 days for $145 gives some dodgies cheap access to the roads

I’ve got a car which will be eligible in 18 months for NSW “club plates”. It bothers me not, to retire it from daily service and only drive 60 days a year in it. That’s still some decent mileage and use.
How I maintain it won’t change, I like my cars ready to cross the Nullarbor with nothing more than a quick check of tyre pressures and fluids. But because it looks ratty, no doubt it will attract pejorative opinions of the uncouth/uninformed. Saving $800/yr on registration will soon fund a repaint of the roof and lift its appearance. |

Wish we had the log book system up here in qld, our club rego sucks you basically cant drive them without going on an official club run. Would love to have a couple free days a week to drive the old xdub

yep, pretty much open slather here, as long as the log book is completed. I sometimes give the old girl a run to the shops or to work. I buy 45 days and I reckon the most I have ever used would be maybe 28

Don’t blame the people taking advantage of cheap rego in a car that’s eligible, blame vicroads ( or the like ) for charging $850 a year to register a late model ute ( for example )

As Trevor pointed out it should not be known as rego, its a club permit.
Thanks for clearing that up about the full RW inspections before being issued the club plates. I haven't got a problem with the age / type of club registered vehicle just when you see them blatantly used for work purposes is wrong. Its a pity Australia can not make a standard age or scheme to apply to all states.

If only the authority’s realised that if all regos were cheaper, then they would get more money from us in the long run. More registered cars does not mean more cars on the road, you can only drive 1 at a time.

If the Government decides to investigate further, they'll either modify the scheme further or they'll cancel it - you're talking tax dollars being withheld. It's in your interests to prevent this occuring - we've all seen the implementation and evolution of the Hoon laws introduced a little over a decade ago about how they target car enthusiasts, we're already an endangered species. VIC rego is cheaper than both NSW and QLD so you have it good already. |

maybe. or not. In the UK all cars over 25 years old are exempt from paying road tax. that's totally exempt. zero pounds. I know the system is different in the UK and there are other fees to pay, but not to the government. all they get is the road tax payment.

There's plenty of old bangers on H plates around here - I'd rather look at them on my daily walk than the SUV fridges that seem to prevail.

Yes cops need to enforce the laws more but I’d rather see them doing more important jobs. We also have the option of fitting personnel plates instead of S plates. At least I did 11 years ago. Takes the focus off you.

I think that VicRoads (after consulting clubs) will alter the scheme more, tighten it down
The blow out in permits occurred when they removed the bit about only using the car on club runs With the slowing down of American imports (due to asbestos and other issues) we will probably see less cars going on the scheme. They may even extend out the time, say from 25 years to 35 year People will always abuse a loop hole, and with little real policing going on there is a lot of opportunity to abuse the system. They may even change to rules under which clubs get approved, there is a local club to me with 660 members @ $100 per year who run no events, have no meetings, all they do is provide access to the CPS, to me they are dodgy, but they are acting within the rules, VicRoads have even audited them with no faults found. $66,000 per year income for the clubs exec, not bad with no accountability
