This is my Dog

I Believe that his name will be Jack, thankyou all for helping choose!

After the weekend he will be very loved and adored, treated a million times better than the previous owner, and the lucky fella is gonna send me so broke!

Gee, Isn't he just the most adorable little lad! Awww...

My cattle-X-kelpie is called Jack, it's a name that you can 'bark' out, to discipline him, and you can call him Jacksh**, Jackas$, etc...

He's so CUTE!!!

My dog Fudge was rescued from the pound. The guy knew nothing of her history, and didn't even know her name. We had chosen a name but I didn't think it suited her (Gypsy) and then while we were signing paperwork, my daughter said Fudge. All of us liked it straight away.

It only took her a day or two to realise that it was her new name. New name for a new start, as someone else has said.

Oh and Pizzle... I had never ever heard that expression before, and then last night I read it in a book. Freaky.

Cool

Pizzel sounds to crude, jack to common, I am sure if you give it some time you will come with a name for him.

When he jumps push him away forcefully useing your knee, with a very loud, stern, NO. You will get to know when he is about to jump and you can pre-empt his jump with a stern NO also. When he does what he is told always reward him with either a small treat to start with then after a while just a pat.

On the right track...but don't use too much force...lest you crack/break a rib or sternum.

I would suggest you look for a dog obedience club nearby and do some training, bonding, socialising with him.

ROFL!

If he jumps, then Jack it should be:
1. Jack jumped over the candle stick
2. Jumpin' Jack Flash
3. He's nearly as white as michael JACKson. LOL.

If Jack doesn't work first up, then start by calling him Jackel (rhymes with Pizzle), then when he's used to that, shorten it to Jack.

The jumping thing will soon be cured by a bent knee (yours) - just watch out that he doesn't think you are offering him something to mount!

As for the re-training of him (and it is re-training as his previous owner didn't train him so he has habits that need to be changed/broken), it is going to take a lot of time, patience and of course love, and from reading your posts on your new fur-baby, you've got heaps of that for him. Find a vet that has a pet behaviourist, let the behaviourist spend some time with him, they will be able to tell if there is anything underlying from the treatment from his past owner that you may have to watch, also they will suggest the best obedience "school" for you, as well as exercises you can do together to help him adjust to a loving home.

Enjoy him, love him, care for him and you in return will have the adoration of a beautiful puppy (and he is beautiful)

That is all well and good, except our nearest vet and obedience school is 150kms away! I rekon all I can do is my best to change his naughties and love him till he settles down a bit, after all, he is still a pup and will not have all this energy in a few years time...

Thanks heaps guys...
