I think there was an EL AJR as well. Unlike the EF which was GLi/Futura based, the EL version was based on the Fairmont
And get rid of those LTDs, and I certainly wouldn't call those XRs special edition (unless we're talking about the Sprint, wagon etc.)

There was a "Phase 6" XE maybe? I remember seeing one in the trading post done up like the Greens-Tuf XE (but with a bigger front bar). Maybe the seller was full of it, or it was a coincidental name of the bodykit.
I shall relinquish #29 to you Sir :P (Tis a good thread, really!) |

Ah damn it we are even..thats not good enough.
The only phase 5 (or maybe 6) i remember seeing was a white XD with a freak of a body kit. The ones you might be thinking of are XE Dick Johnson Grand Prix Turbos, pretty rare and have a supercar style kit. Ive only ever seen one and that was in QLD. +1 : :P ok its too late for this silly business..lol..im done for today

In the wagons released they brought out V8 models. Don't see many of them around. I know of EB and ED Fairmonts - some came out with 8's. As far as I'm aware, there was never an XR8 wagon. And also, how about we start adding to the list the numbers built and see how we go?

I agree these aren't in any order. But I've gotten quite keen on this thread now. We need to prune off some of the rubbish and keep the upper models and lower build numbers.

As i said above, is the XR8 sequential exclusive enough for the list?
"Built back in 1997 to take some of the attention from GM's just released VT Commodore and to inspire a new generation of enthusiasts, the Sequential XR8 will not be new to most of you - but forms an important part of EL history as only one of very few prototypes to ever make it out of the factory." Well, is it limited enough? "While mild by today's standards, Sequential’s prototype 5-litre pushrod V8 was coaxed into developing a more respectable 215 kW (remember the XR8 on which it was based only made 185kW) thanks to locally worked SVO aluminium heads, a EL GT inlet manifold, more aggressive camshaft, cold air intake with functional bonnet scoop, more aggressive camshaft, low resistance K& N air filter and a pair of big bore 4-into-1 HM exhaust headers, with the biggest difference coming from a pair of fat chrome tailpipes... All in all, seems a bit of overkill just to gain 215kW... " "Which brings us to that name - having more to do with the gearbox than anything else - obviously! Believe it or not, this car and it's gearbox were once prototypes for the AU series 1 T-series, giving it a very special place in history... That was until the bean counters caught up with things, decreeing the sequential manual gearbox a no-goer due to one seriously blown budget - leaving the auto the sole recipient of Tickford's wheel mounted gear selection technology." ^^^ Has heritage apparently...
