So it doesn't misrepresent a BA XR6 and with a B reg plate it is an early BA. |

It's unfortunate that they used the BA in the advert, I would have liked to of seen the LTNZ use a car that isn't currently in production such as a EF, VT, or Magna as the BA and current BF still look similar visually.
I don't mind that they made it look like a car advert, however some parts like the use of the tiptronic auto are too close for comfort compared with the original BA advert. Magpie, you are correct about the BA not having DSC. However like I said above, the BA and BF still look very similar in the public eye, and therefore Ford do have some justified concerns with the advert. |

Ford also has an unexpected ally in this one in Clive Matthew-Wilson, publisher of the Dog & Lemon Guide. He is normally very pro Toyota in the car reviews but in this case he has pointed out that most of such accidents in NZ are caused by younger drivers in Japanese cars, while the typical older drivers of Falcons are rarely involved in such accidents. I hope Ford goes for the legal jugular on this one.

im reasonably sure in France there are minimum speed limits on the highways as well as maximum..its something like max 130 min 100..a very good idea imo..but not as good as autobahns which still manage to be safer than american roads..all those powerful supercars, muscle cars e.c.t. the americans have crippled by 65 mph speed limit..

All i will say about speed on the highway is, we all should drive battery powered duracel cars that all do the same boring speed as the govt run campaign of making us believe speed kills is nothing more than a cover up for their community virus, otherwise known as a speeding ticket / revenue raiser
On the highway today for hours at the legal speed and wow how boring and sedate it is these days n times to travel at such low speeds in cars built and designed better than ever before on far better roads, picking zits of my backside would have been more fun. Give us those uropean road rules at least they can work a sweat up, and as above owning anything other than a duracel car these days you need protection from the mundane laws that spread the speed camera disease. |

Bringing this thread back from the past, I noticed tonight that the advert has been re-aired. I thought Ford NZ managed to get it taken off air, or am I incorrect?

All that ad told me was that Kiwi drivers in XR's on New Zealand roads, cant drive as well as Aussie drivers in XR's on Kiwi roads - even with five years of practice since they first saw an Aussie driving a BA there.

This ad has been run in NSW by the Road Toll Authority for several years.
It is at least 3 years old.

On the news the other night I saw a segment on the new 'hoon hotline', two things I found interesting;
1) A policeman gets interviewed and says something to the effect of "When people see other drivers on the roads doing something dangerous, they will feel better if they can use the hotline". I had to laugh when I heard that, personally I would have thought they would prefer a greater police presense on the roads, by the way not having a go at the policeman I am sure he was saying what he was told to say, probably agrees with me truthfully. 2) Someone being interviewed (could have been the same policeman), says "As long as there are men in cars, there will be hoons". And aren't government glad! So they are admitting that unless something preventative is done (legal offstreet drags etc etc), nothing will change including (importantly) revenue. Anyway nothing new here I guess. |

Advert for the new hoon laws has a new Holden ?clubby? racing a BF ford through some winding street until they are stopped by a giant wireless telephone across the road.
Why dont they ever use Rice cars in their adverts?! like a Rex or EVO or something of that nature? they seem to be declaring that all hoons drive aussie sedans. And god im sick of watching that bloody VL commodore do that powerslide out of that intersection on Today Tonight. MAybe the new laws are working, coz they cant get anymore new footage!?

That poor Kiwi didn't stand a chance even if he was speeding. THERE IS LAND MINES ON THE FIGGEN ROAD.
Seriously though, the crash could of been alternatively caused by a shard of glass piercing a tire or a kangaroo/ Kiwi bird running infront of the car.

At least it's targeting innapropriate speed rather than just a few kph over the speed limit. Like those 10kph over adds.

I saw that add in New Zealand a couple of weeks back. The bit that pricked my ears up was "When you push your speed on corners, there's less room for error. There's more force taking you off the road and less keping you on it, and there's no warning".
What a heap of crap. Firstly if there is more force taking you off the road than keeping you on it, you have already lost control. Secondly there is warning and the theory behind it known as slip angle is very well known. Quoting from Fred Puhn's book on suspension about the subject of slip angles "There is no abrupt transistion between a tire holding its grip and a tire losing its sideways grip". |
