Those numbers are too low. Anything under 4,000 is not good for Falcon's long term viability as an indigenous model.

I just got on the freeway and going the other way was a VE ignition SS. Get off the freeway and coming at me was another VE ignition SS. Then i seen a doctor in a new caprice. + a omega at bursons and a omega on a footpath looked like it was showing off to the cars that passed outside a factory. The new Sporty model remind me of when the BA first came out everyone seem to have one.

5000+ commodores is good, not for ford but still shows people are still interested in the big car. Once again corolla beat the falcon, falcon just looks way to boring in comparison to commodore.

Good result for Holden but then again they have received some excellent publicity lately. What surprises me is the Barina and Viva results, however.

How anybody could drive a fiesta and then drive a barina and then actually buy a barina is beyond me. I had a hire one in MLB a few weeks ago. It had about 3000k on the clock. It would have to be one of the worst cars that I have ever driven. People must simply buy on price and leave it at that. My wife's little fiesta is 100 times better than the barina. Oh well, at least after 4 or 5 years the fiesta should still actually be worth something.

I can explain that.

1) PRICE
2) Holden Barinas reputation as a "brand"
3) It's been around as a Barina for some time
4) Fiesta is still a relatively unknown car.
5) Ford marketing

In that order.

6) Ford dealers - no professionalism and very sleezy.

Ive been shopping for a new car with one of my friends (girl) and talk about assholes. Some will say they all arent like that, but the two we went to were, bloody disgraceful people, Ford obviously doesnt give its sales staff any training what so ever about being decent towards female customers.

Went to holden, no smart remarks, no assholes perving at her and a decent deal. We ended up getting the Astra.

Ford will be lucky if they see to me again after the last 24 hours, their sales staff are the most unprofessional people ive seen in the industry, and I dont know why.

Funny the opposite is true here, the holden reps were shocking, the ford people were very profesional and likeable. Guess we both had never buy a ford or holden ever again hey!!

I think it primarily comes down to stock for the Fiesta.

Here's what is being happening in the NZ new car sales race, from MIA, via car.co.nz.

The new car market continued at near-record levels in September. 7422 new cars were registered making September the strongest month this year. It was a 10.2% lift on August and just 1% behind the peak reached in September 2005. Commercial vehicle sales at 1924 fell 16% behind the seasonal peak, reflecting the softening economy.

In contrast to the continuing strength of the new vehicle market, used imports were again well down on previous years’ levels and are now down 17.8% against 2005 on a year to date basis.

“There’s a fundamental shift towards newer vehicles taking place,” said Perry Kerr, CEO of the Motor Industry Association. “Buyers are becoming increasingly aware of the value represented by new cars as well as late model New Zealand-new used cars.”

Ford and Toyota are now running neck and neck in the new car sales battle after Ford taking top honours for the last three months, but Toyota remains well in front for total vehicles thanks to their dominance in commercials.

Commodore surged to a huge lead in the individual model stakes in September, increasing the year to date lead over Falcon.

Top Fifteen new car models, Month of September 2005.

1 HOLDEN COMMODORE 834
2 FORD FALCON 502
3 TOYOTA COROLLA 456
4 FORD FOCUS 355
5 TOYOTA CAMRY 343
6 HONDA JAZZ 228
7 HOLDEN VIVA 203
8 MAZDA MAZDA6 199
9 SUZUKI SWIFT 185
10 DAIHATSU SIRION 178
11 TOYOTA YARIS 162
12 FORD TERRITORY 161

I think with both Ford and Holden dealers its the luck of the draw although Holden is generally much more polished.

I will give a guernsey though to Hills Ford Hornsby (sales only, service and parts is rotten). They have a FEMALE salesperson in the showroom and very knowledgable and friendly she is. What a sensible acknowledgement by the dealer of where much of the car-buying power is. Other dealers please note. I reckon Ford would sweep to the top of the market if at least half the dealers' sales staff were replaced with women - ones who know their cars like this one.

You forgot 7)... Noone really give a **** as long as it's cheap runs cheap and gets from A to B.
I know a guy that owns a EF XR6 EA Falcon and his runabout car is a Corolla that is about 18 years old. It was tipped by a mob last new years.

I'm about to buy a 91 Camry as a **** kicker run around car. It's cheap.

Geez, who the hell did you find there?! have a gander at my reverse sensors post in contemporary falcons regarding my issues with Hills...the old manager was great, as is Nick- there are no female sales staff there now- 2 left while dealing with my car and I never even met them!

I have had great service from Hills however, they don't always get it right 1st time but they remedied the issues with my clunking BA perfectly within 2 visits.

Holden would be dissapointed with those numbers. They would have been planning to sell at least 7000. Holden have to sell VT numbers to get that billion dollar investment back, and they have already fallen short. Early days though.

I very much Doubt Holden would have ever estimated 7000 units with the way the market is, i think they have done very well, another month and further supply and we may infact seem them 2000 units ahead of Ford.

Their 2x4 Ute sales must say something to them e.g. we should have brought the VE utes out the same time as sedans.

Fords always going to dominate with the Falcon ute, its too versatile compared to the Holden, the Holdens only good for show ponies!
