Same as most of the crowd. The lights dont seem to affect as much, but the A/C compressor kicking in straight after starting makes the car jerk really badly.

I just turn the key.

I had a mate when I was growing up turn everything off, and thought I was weird when I turned the fan up before starting my Cars.

Don't have to worry about the A/C being on, because I don't have one. lol

Sometimes the radio is on, but nah I always start it up, without anything on.

I leave lights on in my VT, never had an issue in 7 years of blowing headlights, still on the original globes. As a rule I turn off the AC but I have bneen known to forget and leave it on. I replaced the battery in early 2000 and again in May 2005 so I think there is no issue of killing equipment in my case. Maybe that's because it's a Holden.... : : :

Everything off for me. If there's a risk of any unwanted surge or drainage, then that's a risk I'd rather not take. You lose 5 seconds of your life but life's short to begin with. lol

Sounds like your battery is on its way out.

Try INOX Battery Conditioner from Super Cheap Auto for ~$7, it cleans the plates inside of your battery from corrosion and other crap, and if you purchase it with a new battery at Super Cheap Auto, they'll double your warranty.

I've only seen this offer at Super Cheap Auto (Liverpool), but all Super Cheap Auto's should still sell it.

I have everything turned off. The headlights are off to stop that stupid beeping, fans are turned to 0 which automatically cuts A/C and Amps have a delay to turn on.

One foot on clutch other foot on brake (Just in case the car is accidentally in gear, which I check before)

if you have you dial set to windscreen your air-con will be on (in later model falcons)

i thought i had a prob with mine and saw my mechanic and he told me that all later model fords use the air con to demist the windscreen

my 2c worth

I think it doesn't matter. Some cars, like mine, have a safety feature which leaves your lights on for 45 seconds so you can find your way around in the dark (I leave my parkers on). Secondly, on start up the A/C does not engage the clutch until the car settles after start up, hence no additional load on starter motor. Although the lights stay on.

There is nothing in the owners manual about that I don't think. Personal choose....... just don't rev the ring out of it on cold start ups. That is plain dumb!

My thoughts exactly. I have had it happen to me once. I always make sure i turn off all accessories etc before i leave my car. That way when i come back to it i just turn the key without turning everything off. And there is nothing worse than when it has been hot the day before getting into the car on a cold frosty morning and the A/C is on. Tasmanian weather makes no sense.

If the battery is fine it wont matter. I just never start with headlights on cause they are a heavy load.

lol, sames. In fact I dont drive with the air con on at all unless im on a long highway trip and its stinking hot. I have bulk mechanical sympathy, lol, I'd rather be sweating than making my engine work harder.

Old cars? Turn everything off.
Newer cars? Everything else is turned off when you turn the key to 'start'
But then some drivers like to do their shut down and start up rituals [compulsive disorder?]

I always chuck my headlights on once the car is started, stereo always stays on.

And my air-con is usually always on even when the car is off, it's called a window :P
