Domestic violence orders are only good to the ones that respect them, unfortuantley that does not always go hand in hand.

DVO's can so often be abused as is the case in the situation I personally know of. I had my ex put a DVO against me. During the due course it took 9 months of having an interm order against me before it was ever heard in court as I refused to accept it and pleaded not guilty to keep my name clear.
My ex stated I verbally abused her and harrassed her. (not to mention it was a ploy to get me into a consent order regarding my daughter during the "interim order" where we had to attend mediation to get the consent order in place. Once it went to court the DVO that is, I defended myself whilst legal aid paid for her solicitor. The magistrate leaned over the bench and said in a very stern voice to her solicitor "IS THIS ALL YOU'VE GOT?"
I successfully defended it which is not an often occurance when you defend yourself.
That is why I say they can be abused so easily simply to use the legal system to harass the male in this case "other party" is probably better, but having said that also, if a male tries to get a DVO against a woman its an entire different ball game...the woman just has to say he abused me, true or not, they take her word for it and put an order against the male. Males have to prove it before even an interim order is placed.
All this is really off the point a little so thats my Rant about DVO's
The point I am trying to make is The orders only work when in this case I respected the order and conditions placed on it whilst the interm order went on. Due Course needs to be sped up a lot to deal with this type of abuse and penalties in place for thise that abuse the system.:
