When I buy a car I am a bugga of customer... PDIDDY will back that up

The dealers I shopped at for my Ute were good to deal with I didnt do any face to face at all. I was up front yes I am going to buy, no I am not buying today. Yes I am talking to other dealers. Yes the best price will get my business.

I have found that the longer you can stay away from the dealer yard the better it is for the buyer. If they wont deal via the phone/e-mail find a dealer that will.

Yeah, tell me about it. When people have to resort to making statements like that (I like to call them, "Look how big my dick is..." statements), rather than letting the facts and/or price swing the deal their way, I know I am talking to a truly collosal ****er and the best thing to do is run (or drive) away, ASAP :eclipsee_

I am like Mowog, organised my last 2 new car purchases via email and had everything sorted like via that method, i then just had to go in and sign the paperwork, which made the whole "sit down at the sales persons desk while they go and see the boss to get the best price experience" non existant.... (Which i personally dont like!)

[QUOTE=SpooN XL]Last car we purchased was a new Mazda sp23.

QUOTE]
Same here but as it was going to be leased I was in no position to bargain. I managed to get free cruise control out of them that's all. My dealer alone sold over 300 Mazda 3s the month I bought mine. Have you tried to sell a second hand one? Took me 3 months to shift mine, there are sooo many of them. That city dealer would have been WestEnd, right? I went to them because they are at the end of my street and I could drop my car off for a service and walk home.

Bought a new GT.
Salesman insited that I listen to the person selling the tint / car alarm / data dot. The person trying to sell me the products was female, top opened to navel and mini skirt pulled up to her neck

Her "Can I interest you in paint protection?"
Me. "No thanks, I have an very good friend who ownes a panel shop and will be looking after the duco"

Her "Oh it needs special paint protection"
Me "is that the one that warns you not to use car wash. My question is, how will it protect from bird shyte (whilst pointing to the fine print)

Her "Well you will need window tinting"
Me "Does your tinter use metallic film on the rear window"?

Her "Of course, only the best metallic film"
Me "Pity about that, Ford advises not to use metallic film"

Her "Here we have the top of the line imobiliser sysem"
Me " Ah teh car comes with factory alarm and Ford immobilser"

Her 'Well if your paying this much you reeally should consider data dot protection"
Me "You dont know the cars very well do you?"

Her "Now, why would you say that?"
Me "Data dot comes as standard"

Her "So your not going to purchase any of these products?"
Me "Sorry, no sale"

She stormed off and pulled her skirt down and put on a cardigan thingy jumper

I think her boob tube was too tight...... :

Dont get me started on the salesman.

Promised accessories that I paid for to be fitted, not fitted.
Panel damage from de badging to be repaired, not repaired, badges stuck over top.
Would not make phone calls, or return my calls.

thou not his fault

No interior light were fitted
Power steering fluid half full, dribbles over resovoir... you get the picture

Just over a year ago I wanted a new car (small car) so I looked on the net at a few and decided on a Hyandai Getz(good, bad, not the poiint) so I went to the Hyandai Dealer and was lookin at a few, I was the only person in the car yard and it took 10 minutes for someone to come out and see me..

(Dealer had his arms folded the hole time and looking down at me)
Dealer: Can I help you?
Toby: Hey, yeah im lookin at buying a getz, 2 door, black, 1.6l etc.
Dealer: yeah.....
Toby: So i'm just going to a couple of dealers getting some prices.
Dealer: hmmmm.. ummm... about $16,400
Toby: So is that the best price you can do me?
Dealer: yes, So are you buying today?
Toby: No, i'm looking at prices today and will be buying tomorrow.
Dealer: all Dealers will give you the same price so why dont you buy today?
Toby: Because im buying tomorrow..
Dealer: why not just buy it now?
Toby: well im going to another dealer now, bye...

Went to toyota had a look at a YARiS within half an hour I had been for a test drive sat down and was told the different options/extras and all that, said to the guy "look imnot buy today but ill probably be buying tomorrow." he was cool with that.
Next day went down and signed up for one.
When it arrived off the boat about 5 weeks later (I pacifically wanted black so I had to wait) the dealer came to my house (bout 25 minute drive) and picked me up and took me to the dealership to get my car. Was very happy..

So I got a good and bad story :P

Just shows the dealer lost the sale as I was set on buying the getz..

i love the window tint comment. That was awsome. just wish that happened more often. stupid people saying stupid things.
Then she followed up with the Data Dots. Amazing, does it get any better??
Mind you years ago i did a ABS test on a test drive only to find out that this car did not have ABS. resulting in a 15-20m lock up. smoke everywhere. i was lost for words.. customer looked at me like i was nuts. it was a used magna. i never sell used cars and i assumed that it had abs. oops.
didnt i look silly. still i kept it straight. and of course no sale!!

Oh man, FPV GT's story reminds me of when my ex-wife bought an Astra (hmmm... she bought a Holden and is now my ex... never really thought of that before now, LOL), and they sat us down and went through that whole spiel, and it's just such crap all that paint protection nonsense. I know a few MX-5 drivers from my time in the NSW MX-5 club, and some of them had a horrid time with that **** being put on their cars.

Ugh. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

John,

I used to deal alot with used car salesmen and for the last few years it has only been new vehicles.

You say email is the best tool, I struggle to find dealers in Australia (I work aust wide) that can use their email. In most cases the sales man hasn't got an email address and i have to go via his manager or secretary, in some case I have had to go via the service dept. All because I want to give them money and an easy sale.

It's funny when they try to 'sell' the car to me, they already have the sale, yet they can't shut up and accept my money.. Another case of not listening.

Selling new cars is alot easier than used. There is less BS as the customer has all the info available to them prior to shopping. The salesman can make it harder though. They need to try less to 'sell' the car and more let the custom 'buy' it.

About 5 years ago i bought a second hand AU XR6 from a ford dealer. The day i was going back to pick up the car myself and a mate rocked up and they still didn't have the car ready, no dramas they gave us a free lunch and then while we were bumming around the dealership the salesman came up to us saying he has a "proposal" for us, yeah i'm listening.

Seems our salesman wanted half a day off to go to a swap meet but couldn't get the time off. So he hatched the following plan. Keeping in mind i live about a 90 minute drive from the dealer.

My mate that was with me was going to be "buying' a used car but he needed to take it home for his dad to inspect before he bought it. The salesman and my mate were going to drive it to show his dad who was going to be mad and not let him buy it.

So while his boss thought this was all taking place we would be off on our merry way and he would have half a day to go to the swap meet. And in return he would buy us a slab of UDL's.

No worries, so to make it look all legit we test drove a near new XR6 ute for about an hour thrashing the living daylights out of it and when my car was ready to go i drove out of the dealership with my mate and the salesman following in the ute. Drove to the nearest bottle shop and got our slab then my mate got back in with me and both us and the salesman went on our merry ways.

Was talking to the salesman when i was back getting some waranty work done and he never got caught.

I like the proposal. i think i like my job better though!
cool story. the only one i have got to top that is a toyota salesman who was selling a car and did a trade valuation, presented it to the customer who looked like a fairly cool kind of bloke. the bloke laughed at the valo and said that it was insured for $10000.00 more than that. the salesman paused for a moment and said that for $500.00 he could arrange the theft!!!! the story goes that he was escorted of the premises with in ohh about 10 min. chuckle. Heard that one from a mate at the dealership (a sydney one but i wont say where) also heard it on the john laws radio program. makes you wonder if it was the first time he had tried it though...

My brother was looking at cars last year. He wanted a Honda Integra, had $15,000 to spend.

We walked into a subaru dealer in Penrith, who was having a grand opening sale.

Us: Hi, we're looking for a honda integra.

Salesman: Sure come with me!

We walked around for 10 mins, no integras...

Us: Um, do you actually have any integras?

Him: Uh yep over here...

Another 5 mins of walking.

Him: See this car here, lovely example of a Impreza. Only $30,000...

Us: That's not an integra, and we have $15,000 to spend mate.

Him: $15,000 eh? That'd be a very good deposit on this impreza...

Us: Do you even have any integras?

Him: No, but this is a lovely car, much better than an integra.

Us: See ya later...

We go back to my car, to find the "valets" with the bonnet up, doing a trade-in inspection, without my permission....

I told them to get the "firetruck" away from my car, we were leaving, dropped a massive burnout in the middle of the lot, and went out of there like a bat outta hell....

Used-car dealers are for the most part, lying, cheating scum.

My family and I have only ever had good experiences with new car dealers. My dad was national car fleet manager for a multinational insurance company for 13 years, and has a few stories, but because of that, if he didn't like em, they never got another sale again from him...

just recently took delivery of a new BF Mk11 F6 Typhoon; sales history - Nov-Dec 06 -all dealers were told I was checking around and I had an idea of price I wanted to pay onroad. No trade, no finance.
I asked point blank if price was feasable and if not what was best price..

answers:

S1: how about a test drive... how about a Mk1 run-out.....no...hmm. We are biggest/best performance dealer etc. What our mech's don't know etc....all other dealers send their problems to us.. Will talk next week regards cost.

S2: brilliant car....will call you back on price. Two days later, congratulations you have just purchased a car........bet you didn't think we could do it..
Me: holy smokes!
S2: yea...but its a BF Mk1 demo we have it here now
Me: Hang on I said new BF Mk11????
S2: You've got to be joking.....
Me: Forget it!
S2: How much are you willing to pay!!!
Me: Hung up

S3: Take this for a drive.......call me when you have thought about it.....
Me: ZZK
S3: No chance.....can't make that price. I have to make a profit.
Me: How much?
S3: XXK
Me: Surely you can make a better deal than that?
S3: YYK, no lower, small discussion, throw in some clothing for kids but no change in price.
Me: Done

S1: on Monday.....well how about continuing that discussion on car?
Me: purchased one last week, thanks
S1: why didn't you ring me??? ****.

Yeah, that's always a classic. Once the pressure's off and they don't really have to deliver on it, they become all matey about it. Wouldn't it be great to have a mate who also wanted the same car and when they pull the, "I could have done a better price..." stunt, you say, "Well here's my mate, do it for him..." and watch their face drop as, simultaneously, their testicles withdraw into their stomach through fear that they have been caught out on one too many bullshit promises and they might have to deliver.

Used car dealers: Went for a look at a particular BA Fairmont V8. Nice car and I had spoken to the dealer boss about a test drive,

Boss: Come around on the weekend mate, bring your family and take it for an hour.
Me: Righto mate, I'll be here Saturday.

Come back on Saturday. Little boss was there. I told him about the prior arrangement with his boss but I needed to put in a baby seat in the back so my wife and I could drive together.

Little boss: No mate, its not race driver day today(whilst looking at the 19inch rubber).
Me: You're sadly mistaken if you think I'm going to burn your precious rubber mate. Who do you think I am? Can't you see that black SV8 over there with my family in it? That would leave this(Fairmont) for dead so dont give me race driver, kicker whatever!

My wife and I go down the road and buy a BA2 XR8. When I pick it up, I then drive to the original used car lot and show them what they missed out on: A fair dinkum buyer!

And guess what? They are still trying to sell that car!

Now there are those who work in the industry who would say that never happens... And that your just plain unlucky to have missed two good cars... So in the end its all your fault... : you should have been a better customer... :

Wrong. It can change from day to day. Even at "reputable' dealers. I'm thinking of a 2nd hand Honda dealership in Perth and I know for a fact that this went on.

Prices in used car lots flux from day to day. They may not go up once a customer has seen it, but they sure can move between days. In both directions.

oh for sure thats true. i was i guess responding to the post where somone said that used cars were way to expensive. as they become older stock they are always reduced. its not often that they are put up just for the sake of it. i have seen it happen if the car was worked on. new gearbox ect. but thats about it. as a rule they are priced with a certain amount of room to move. it would be silly if they were not because most people expect a discount. dont you think?

adrian brien, St Mary's SA. Fit, finish is great, salesman came to my house to pick me up & car preperation was top notch, wish they had chucked in full tank of 98 though - had to fill it up 2.5hrs after driving away. happy customer.
