I think the grille is so fugly, and as for the name "Frontenac", sounds like something the Japanese or Koreans would come up with.

Our VB commodore is a Opel Record Based. The Germans before we got our VB they had IRS with their commodore Senator that had our VL rear side window and a nice little 134 KW@ 5800RPM 3.0L 6 CYL that could do 210KM/H back in 1976. We should of exported our VB with our 3.3L red motor to them. with 69KW@3800RPM |

The amount of money and engineering Holden put into redesigning the Opel Rekord to suit Australian conditions could of actually designed a completely new car.

I remember reading a story in one of the car mags a few years ago that it was going to cost $78m to develop the next Kingswood and GM said it was too much and forced them to use the Opel instead and then had to sit back and watch as the development of the car to suit aussie conditions soaked up $110m and nearly bankrupted Holden. And because of that, it was a full 10 years before Holden could dig themselves out of the hole and got any autonomy back, and it wasn't till VT that Holden were able to use their own designs again and not a derivitive of a european platform.

I spotted one of these in San Francisco a few months ago, a Cadillac Catera. I had to look twice when I saw a VT Dunnydore with Caddy badges!

XC's exported to the UK in the 70's were fitted with TE Cortina (Mk IV in the UK) front indicators which looked a little odd on the XC.
They had a fibreglass insert which fitted into the indicator recess and made the grill indicator proud of the grill. I don't have any photos of the grill and lights on an XC in the UK as this came from a grill I picked up here in the UK off a wrecked GXL. Wayne |

As I understand it, GMH had the next version of the Kingswood ready to go to the first prototype. It was basically an update of the HZ but with a slightly different body shell. Think ED to EF. The sheet metal for the front end was what became the WB so imagine all the variants from Belmont to Statesman with variations of the WB styling. I remember seeing renderings, along with the story, in a mag back in the day.

There is a HR Holden wagon that features in a car chase in the 1972 Jamaican film "The harder they fall".

The VT was still a borrowed platform, a widened and stretched Opel/Vauxhall Omega B platform.
