I think the naming of the Race in Brocks honour is the best idea. We already have Brocks Skyline, I spoke to Super Cheap Auto's marketing department yesterday and left the idea with them, they didn't say no, but they need to speak to VESA about it.

If it were named The Peter Brock 1000 I think that trophy would be the most valued trophy a driver could get.

I used to work at Super Cheap Auto and found many V8 fans frequented the store, if SCA were to stand back and name the event in his honour they would surely win the respect of its core customer.

Peter Brock was always remembered for the Mountain, now the mountain must always remind us of Peter Brock.

Same to stickers on cars etc etc - all just a kneejerk reaction.
The original suggestion for this thread was for Bathurst 2006 only, not for subsequent events. Obviously you're not a real fan if you couldn't spell Allans name properly. I was a great fan of Allans when he was driving Fords, as well as Mazda RX7's.

After this years event, then a more permanent recognition for Brocky can be decided upon, such as a whole section of track such as Skyline or the whole top section, not just an insignificant bend.

Yes, maybe there can be a Moffat 1000 (hopefully not for years to come). But I cant think of any other driver that comes close to them.

How about Mike Burgmann then? He was Australian and like Denny Hulme he also died at Bathurst.

I think that naming the whole race after him isnt what he would want, maybe a strait or corner as the others have said but not the whole thing.

Reports and updates on the news, and the Bathurst Local Mayor reported that all "name changes" are open for suggestion, and that under no circumstances can or will they change the name of the mountain.

Heaps of people out there paying their respects too.

There is talk of a memorial near the track as well.

Was on Channel 9 (NSW).

Thumbs up

It has been suggested to leave the Pole position vacant this year. This is the same as the RAAF missing man flying formation which leaves a space where the pilot would have been.

Sounds like a good idea. I believe '05' will be painted on the position also.

Are some of you guys smoking something or what. As others have mentioned and there's even a pic of it posted, there ALREADY IS a section of Bathurst named after him, Brock's Skyline.

Is is also a given that the front row will be set aside as a memorial etc as it is the norm.

No mention of Don Watson either, he unfortunately crashed at the end of Conrod Straight.
That was the reason that Castrol chase came to be.

I think we need to have a think about what were saying here.
Yes the man [perter brock] was a great driver & an icon for the Australian people to be prowd of, but some seggestions of renaming the Bathurst1000 is simply silly.
Supercheap paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for the naming rights for the race. So what are you gonna do? tell them thay can have there money back because some greif stricken people wanna keep the memory of this great driver.

I agree name a part of the track great idea, but leave the sponsers alone, they are greiving too..
Also what about the drivers that have lost there lives at the tracks around Austraila? are that less important?

I do like buckys idea of a Peter Brock Bathurst rally, run along the lines of the Dutton , but all around Bathurst and the surrounding areas!!

The ideal of the race is bigger then any one person.

IMO I think Peter Brock wouldn't agree with it.

He meant a lot to his fans!

Obviously, there isn't overwhelming support for the idea on this (FORD) site, either get over it, or suggest it to the Super Cheap organisation. Its their money and naming rights your'e talking about.

i dont think naming the race after brocky is a good idea to many reason for and against mayby they could orgainize a staute at the track of him with a plaque of his history this way it could be added to with other great drivers who have passed or even who are still with us as it could be like a drivers hall of fame do you know what i mean

No way. Its got nothing to do with him. He drove cars for living and died, big whoop. Bathurst should be called by whoever pays the bills. :thebirds:

Have read all the posts here and thought i would throw mine on the heap too.. I think leaving Pole position in the race this year for him is a fitting act. This way he will always be rememberd where he raced... up front. As for naming rights He has the skyline named after him and other parts of different tracks too.. but naming a race after him is alittle over the top, also throws all sponsership rights out the window, and to be fair if we didn't have sponsorship we wouldn't have bathurst or any other V8 rounds.

Brocky is an Australian icon, He will never be forgotten. Yes we should do laps in his honour with old Torries and Group A's, we should raise a statue overlooking the Finish line were he enjoyed years of glory, and yes the number 05 should never be used again. But naming a race after the great man is not an option, What if a international company wants to buy the naming rights to Bathurst in years to come? They won't want Brocky in there title but Because his name is on the track it can never be removed.

Just my 2 cents
