I seem to remember that when the Japs finally decided to play at Bathurst there was such a big sook from some people that the rules were changed to preclude them.

The majority of old Jap cars shown on this thread are from the 80s through the 90s. I think there was a RX7 doing quite well then too up until the R32 "event".

I remember it well - the R32 is a legend no question - my beef with it was what was a 2 door coupe AWD AWS car purposely built by Nissan to dominate motor racing world wide (which it achieved brilliantly) ever doing racing 4 door family derived vehicles?

It should have raced Porches Corvettes Ferrari's and the like not Falcadores.

My Jap "classics" owned in the past include '73 Celica,13B RX4 sedan,SII RX7, Honda S600 'vertable (with Datto 1200 running gear). All good fun cars.

I am a little confused. Are you saying that cars purposely built for racing should never have been allowed at Bathurst?

Surely not! That would mean no GTHO, XU1, L34 or A9X.

I know. Lets just make Bathurst a Ford vs Holden race but to make sure that it is fair lets actually make them all the same car with different skins and limit almost every component so there will not be a lot of sooking if the "wrong" one wins by too much.

ah hem, it was built of the 4 door sedan chassis with the suspension revised... Don't forget the classic American racing and BRE the 1600's etc... but if you want to ignore them, then so be it. Also the cross country racing the old Datsun's competed in and did so well in.

Hey Flappist, maybe you are onto something there mate let's find a Government stupid enough to throw taxpayer dollars (was it $25 MILLION?) at the corporations who enter such an event.

That would be a much better idea than spending those same $25,000,000 taxpayer dollars on the redevelopment of a place like, say, Eastern Creek so it could be used for more diverse Motor SPORT as opposed to the use of car racing as a profit making tool for corporations as V8SC does.

Honda Integra DC2 Type R

I love my Aussie cars and my Fords but if i could i'd probably be driving one of the above right now :P

Nissan took the R32 much further than any of the cars you have mentioned,

Check your facts the R32 did have AWS - it was turned off for Australian motoracing applications.

Yes they are rare, but i've seen a few for sale before, ive ever only seen one Z432R before, and that was at a Nissan Private museum and only in photos.

Drew... don't keep me hanging like that.. Where the heck is it????. And SVD, there was actually one 2 years ago that was at the Shannons auction in Melb. A fellow also whacked one up on ebay only a month ago in W.A.

Starkers EB - re the 2 doors. Motiv8 is right. We got two containers, both by accident. They were destined for NZ and they basically got the order /containers back to front. So they get here, the container gets opened and no one knew what to do with them. They sat around for a bit, before they ended up selling here. a very very vague recollection somewhere told me 23 came here on this shipment- the rest were just shipped over from NZ.
The 2 doors were awesome - it was my first racecar.

That would be me... and although the garage is well over full - i ain't parting with them. I want to add a CSP311 and a Prince Skyline GTB too (reminds oneself to go and beg mercilessly to the forlorn looking money tree out the back), but first i have to get the roadster back together for Nationals at Easter in Warwick.

I know its not really a classic but I just love the way my forester launches-2.0 with a tiny turbo,automatic with awd and 4.1 gears. Its bound to become a jap classic.

Not a classic but I think it will be. Love the 200sx S15. I'm worried about buying one because you can stop the odo by taking out the ABS fuse. But still love em.
