Well really there is n0 difference in w0t u can get fr0m the end result with a g00d cust0m tune, cause they are b0th d0in the exact same thing, and that is replacing the entire pr0gram 0n the eec with the 0ne either 0n the chip 0r 0n the flasher.
But what we are talking b0ut here is giving y0u the ability t0 c0mpletely tune it y0urself.

Hey guys, have just added support for AU2 XR8 Manual (Smartshield) to the site.
If anyone has an AU which is not supported (i.e. AU2 V8 Auto) and lives in Melbourne, send me a PM. Cheers, Jason |

Can anyone confirm if all of the V8 defs done to date have been Smartlock?
It appears that Smartshield is a little trickier than this, and that we can't simply plug a chip in and drive away. Does anyone have any tips to chip a Smartshield ECU? |

yeah i've done em, works fine, some of the def's are smartshield. And one of them i found the smartshield switch too.
If they having problems then its not being done correctly, has to be the full 256k bin written as it is on the eec, and then only the changes made to it, u can not use a different bin to what was read from the eec, as the eec and bem communicate.

Hmm.
I pulled the bin straight from the car (AUIII Futura 6 Cyl), and put it on a chip (tried both Moates and T.I.) as is and the car won't crank. No smartshield lamp, nothing. Now if you've gotten an S2 working OK that makes me think maybe my read was dodgy. Did you have to solder the links on the ECU? The ones I saw both had the resistors present so I assumed links not required. This is the 2nd car i've had with the same symptoms, the other a AUIII XR8. Getting the ECU out is a nightmare in these things (compared to e-series)! |

Yes if resistors r there then u dont need to solderV anything.
Just double check your bin, data should start at addresses 2000, 12000,22000,32000, make sure you've sent range too 00000-3FFFF on both. Also I used Tunerpro to do all my reading and writing on eec5's, i found the eec editor etc. didn't work. But yes i have done a S2 V8 Fairlane Ghia with smartshield no probs, so......

Will email you the bin. Didn't think to pull the bin with the moates, I pulled it with our reader.

k my email is out for a couple days, but i'll look then.
I will be doing a S2 AU Fairmont Ghia V8 this weekend, so if i think of anything else off it i'll let u know. What i will add here is that i have done direct bin comparison's of WALG, one off my parents S2 V8 fairlane ghia, and 1 off another forum member "blueprint" and both were identical, so there is no change in any smartshield code etc in the 256k bin. Both bin's were 100% identical.

Ok well today i read the eec out of a 01 series 2 fairmont ghia v8, its a WALG is well, its read identical to the other 2 i have, i programmed a chip and yep like u said no go. which is interesting, anyway i didn't have time to go thru and find were i have put the def that i have located the smartshield switch on, so i loaded on a WAFB onto a chip with the smartlock dissabled, and works 100%, now tuned.
I'll go thru at a later stage and find the smartshield dissable, i've found it b4 so shouldn't be too hard lol.

Ahh! Very interesting news!
Would be keen as mustard to see where this is. Surely the SCT tunes don't all have smartshield disabled, though??? I have heard once a (any) tune is blown in via a Flash Tuner that this security appears to be disabled. Very curious. Glad im not going insane though. Jason |

This particular bloke flashed it with another stock tune, then used this stock tune on the J3 to get it going.
edit: maybe this was a pre-smartshield bin he used. if so, he must have then disabled smartlock? hmm. Last edited by galapogos01; 04-07-2009 at 11:52 AM. |

ive been comparing the bins for the smartshield switch, i've come up with 12160 on WALG, but i aint got anything to test it on ATM. The none smartshield series 1 read's dont have this in the prog.

Cheers. Not sure if I will have access to an 8, but any chance you can send through the WALG bin? I thought I had it but I dont seem to. I will try to find this in 12BE, S3 6cyl futura wagon, then test it.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but would it be possible to tune an AUIII 5.6 with the tweecer?
If so, it may be an economical alternative to the xcal3... I can get a 'tune' and have it burnt to a J3 chip. cheers in advance!

It certainly is possible. You can use the twEECer hardware with the Binary Editor software (which can use the defs discussed in this thread).

Very interesting, I've got BE 2010 (would have to get a license to do the down/upload), and a tweecer (no-RT).
Might see if I can do a bin dump next time I'm at the car. Thanks

Sorry to thread mine, but will the Quarterhorse product allow me to tune my EEC-IV (2DCA) and EEC-V (12SB) cars and have datalogging?

Have a read of http://www.tiperformance.com.au/products.html - you will find some more info about my chips etc here.
Not so sure about the QH - support with data logging will depend on whether someone has written a log definition as well as an edit definition for that strategy. As I understand it a few people are using the open edit definitions I provide but that doesn't give you logging. Cheers, Jason |

There is a pretty in-depth thread about this on the fordmods website, where Jason (galapogos01) has charted his progress over the past few years with regards to the development of these chips...
Jason, any update as to the compatibility of AU's with your chips? Have you developed chips to suit ALL variants of AU's yet? I myself have an AU3 6cyl auto, most definitely interested in getting a chip soon if the results are comparable to a 'tune'..... Are there any before-and-after comparisons from people who have used your chips as a reference to others who may also be interested??

Hi gents,
Results from a remap depend on a lot of things - the abilities of the tuner, how bad the tune was to begin with (how much power there is to unlock), what modifications have been made to the engine etc... the product used to remap the ECU is not important, its more about the tuner! Having said that, there are a bunch of dyno charts from cars tuned with our products at http://www.tiperformance.com.au/owners_gallery.php - unfortunately no AU owners have uploaded their cars yet but plenty of AU engines in other cars. Our J3 Chips are fully compatible with the AU EEC-V, and we have unlocked the strategies for most box codes - so if you have a specific question just shoot me a PM Cheers, Jason |

Hi,what xdf is used for a WALG au2 ecu?
did you ever find the smartshield switch for these in the end as I have one going into a cobra that has the key,bcm etc all removed so will need security fully disabled.. is their xdf groups or familys like the american ecus? gufb suits a9l,x3z etc for example.. also would need to disable auto trans in the Walg, can I use a manual bin and def? cheers Peter ps I have various Au ecus at the moment if you want some donated bin files from them.. |

Hey Peter,
There's an application chart at http://www.tiperformance.com.au/technical.html which lists the known xdf for each box code. Some do work on multiple bins. Most (all?) have smartshield defined or it can be found by comparison with a hex editor. You can run a manual bin. If you do dump any that aren't already on the site, please email them to me or zip them up and put them on multiupload.com and link them here so I can add them! Cheers, Jason |

Cheers thanks Jason,
yes tried the 22CA disabled Smartshield bin and it seems to start and run fine in the WALG ecu, And also worked in Y3DF I think this is out of AU2 Manual though I tried turning off the smartshield bit Using the WALG bin and def and didnt seem to work, do I need to pad these or will Moates flashburn utility do the offsets required automatically? Can I use these Defs in BinaryEditor? Also have tunerpro but prefer BE from doing mostly A9L/GUFB tuning to date.. Cheers Peter |
