No slicks allowed. Every car there was on road legal semi slick tyres. Spent the whole day there- was pretty good! The XR6 Turbo sounded like a 747 spooling up every time it came round the final turn but you could see it was an absolute dog in the corners compared to everything else- so slow.

Spoke with Jose after the meet. This morning was the first time this car had seen any track time at all. Biggest problem today was putting power to the ground....constant wheel spin. Had to de-tune engine, best lap 1:40.5.
Car was whoopin it down the straight just couldn't get the power to the ground through the corners when it needed to. Would be much better if they were allowed to run slicks.

Albeit an 11 year old record. I think they may have got a little quicker since 1999. Though I recognise also that the cars at superlap are on roadies they may not have the engine restrictions that V8' sc's have.

I think what really hurt them was the loss of the whole day on Friday... If they had of turned up on Friday who knows how quick the thing could have been on Saturday! Perhaps a little unorganised??

Am I wrong in saying that's the race lap reccord not qualifying lap reccord for the supercars? Also the sports sedans are faster than the v8 too or what ever the tin tops that run anything are called.

Just checked lap record is 1.30 something in an AU lol go ford.

That said these million dollar tin tops are still slower than a go kart

Then there is this bloke, hero at Eastern Creek and zero at Monte Carlo last weekends F1 race, OUTRIGHT Nico Hulkenberg (GER) A1 Lola Zytek 1.19.142 4/02/2007 .
Re the Jose car, seemed like an awefull lot of trouble and expense to go to and then be 9 secs off the pace. His interview was as if he was going to be right up there but he had nothing. Too much talk not enough track time to dial in the car. Like the old saying " When the flag drops the bulldust stops".

Check out the wings on some of the opposition cars. They look like they come from DTM with those multi-strakes / winglets. The Supercar aero is not for massive downforce. It is really for anti-lift with only minimal downforce. Surely they could do some serious tweaking / development?!

How wide are they allowed to go for the tyre width? Channeling 800hp at the rear wheels would require some really wide tyres!

Still, it's good to see the Falcon up there. At a place like Sandown or Bathurst the hp would show.

What a great effort considering the car has had basically zero development/testing with this configuration

But you got to remember they didnt have time to do all the last minute stuff like testing etc..

Great Effort.. Even though a Lotus Elise kicked it's butt, it's still a great feat to achieve!

Hope it's back next year!

I think you both are right.

According to a comment by someone on the Car Advice article Day 1 discussions:

The actual v8sc laptime is 1.30.8955 set on 28-04-2001 set by Marcos Ambrose. Skaifes lap was during the race.

Go Panspeed!
This is still slower than the winning superlap car, and the V8SC had better rubber. I wonder how longevity would come into play.

it was an odd day out there. Cars within each category had a couple of 40 min session on the Sunday to post a quick time. Track commentary stated that the tryes on teh cars were only good for 2-3 laps then they went off, just like the old V8 qualifiers. There was a lot of cost in machinery on display for little track action. The most interesting part of teh day wasnt watching teh cars but cruising behind teh poits observing what these rice crackers were made from ie firbe glass panels & big turbos. In all a fun day

I think what a lot of people forgot about was that the Falcon was on treaded tyres.. equiv to wets on a V8 Supercar..

Had the car been able to run on slicks who knows how fast it could have gotten..

For the amount of money that went into the cars themselves, the overall event was a bit odd. a few sessions here and there.. if Pro Class was the main headline act they should have been able to run longer sessions to put in better times..

Was the Pro Class final cancelled?? If it was that would have cost alot of Pro Class cars a chance of a solid decent lap.

Same rules for everyone there, had the other cars (Evo's and GTR's) been on slicks they would have been quicker too.

They had nothing like the development time the other teams had though. From memory they only managed to get the engine in the car and running something like the week before the event.

Correct, it was a great effort just to have the car out on the track. Look forward to seeing it in the future with some more development into the car.
