Leather smells nice, looks nice and thats about it. I prefer the cloth in the Mrs FG XR6 compared to the G6ET... next car (GT ) will be cloth without a doubt.

i loved the leather in my zj fairlane it lasted 25 years before it split.
children with nees in and walking on the seat killed the back seat.
covers instead of conditioners dosnt work.
keep the leather conditioned and it will out last the car.
tickford au2 xr8 now with leather (black).

Had leather on my last 2 cars, current car has ivory leather. We didn't opt to buy leather on our new Polo GTi though. You really need to maintain it often, and it will often make squeeky noises which can be annoying. I could go either way on leather these days.

I have had leather since the AUIII in 2003 and will never go back.
If you are worried about burned bum syndrome get a decent window tint
If you are worried about cold in winter wear jeans
If you are worried about maintenance, think this way
a) If you spill something on leather its easier cleaned off and you will be thankful.
b) When you treat the leather let the treatment soak in for a few hours and be sure to wipe off all of the excess as it will attract dust and the lokes. I do this one every 6 months with Maguires and they always come up a treat. The rest of the year a damp chux.

If the kiddies drop chips and buscuits everywear and your too lazy to clean it up properly on a regulalr basis the salt and crap will make you pay no matter if its leather, vinyl or cloth.

As for all of the comments about sliding in the seats, pfffft. Just remember not to wear your sheep skin race suit, the one with the wool on the outside, and you will be right

I think you make it sound too hard to live with leather, though it's not as bad as you make it sound, you are not selling the idea very well.

How long does it take to apply the leather conditioner to all seats? 20mins tops? I take that long to vacuum and clean the dash currently.

Just vacuum up all the dirt & crap from the stitching, get a leather conditioner, Spray & wipe
& if there's any excess, just wipe it off with a damp/dry cloth

It doesn't even take that long to maintain them either, if anything it takes less time, since you're not vacuuming all the stuck in dirt that sticks to cloth.

As for my opinion, I love them. They don't grab onto your clothing like cloth, much easier to get comfortable in & softer
Cold seats? Don't sit in your car Naked
Hot days? Your car is going to be stinking hot either way

Australian leather rubbish? Why do people bag the Australian product? I think Australian leather is the best in the world. If people think that imported car leather and cars are superior why don't they live in these perfect countries? Live the life of perfection.

I like both leather or cloth but only in an Australian car. Practice makes perfect but that wont happen if Australians bag their own countries important industries. Its purely unethical and very sad. Australian made is the best by far.

nice sentiment, I agree

but I don't think Australia's best leather ends up in the Ford or Holden

I do know the cows that it used to hold together are very tasty though

God bless our Aussie farmers

Real Australian leather is VERY different to the Australian leather they use in Australian made cars.

My father used to be a leather worker in a past life and some of the best he worked with was from here in AUS.

My mates BMW compared to my F6... his wins hands down... and it's 3 years older than mine!

its not that Aussie leather is crap, its that the Aussie car manufacturers dont use the good stuff. the last Falcon I sat in that supposedly had leather, I think I offended the owner when I suggested it was vinyl....

The definately don't use the good stuff anymore, but they used too. The Howe leather in my NL is light years ahead of any of the stuff they used post BA.

Comes down to personal choice really. After owning a car with leather, I doubt that I would opt for it again. Looks great, but not really a suitable material for hot Australian summers. Tired of having a sweaty back after the seats soak up a massive amount of heat, even with a shade on the windshield and dark tinting.

The leather in my Rebel looks like leather, not vinyl.
I like it.
I guess leather will always be thought of as the luxury option in car seats.
