Some days you ask yourself why you even bother reading some of the dribble on this forum. There's a lot more to a car than the engine. Just look at the next gen of cars like the a45 AMG which will be over 300kw in a 2 L engine. Ford could have run the new Mustang 5.2L flat plane engine with twin turbos but they choose to run something lighter with less friction.i think they are brilliant for giving this a go.

Remember Clarkson emptying his wallet into the fuel tank when they went to Paris? You wouldn't want to be pitting every 5 laps for fuel in a race.

The racing car wont particularly follow what the road car does. The previous GT raced by Matech used a 5L and 5.3L NA V8 instead of the 5.4L SC V8. Most of these GT style categories also balance performance with air restrictors, which in most cases is not much over 2 inches wide.
There were early rumours that if the GT returned, it would race with a TTV6 but go on sale with a V8, possibly Voodoo. |

The earlier Ford GT capitalized on development for the Terminator Cobras and Lightning pickup. A supercharged 5.4 was the easy answer. It did not come from a race engine, and superchargers are the wrong answer for any form of racing other than drag racing.

No, it was hideous. The GT is gorgeous.

XBox and Ford in partnership. Clever marketing to the younger generation perhaps?

It needs some fine tuning but that should be expected with over a year until production.

wow...hard to please?
Sounds like something that would normally have a Ferrari or Porsche badge on it. That turbo whistle.. Oh, the center of the taillights are dump pipes for the waste gates...factory fitted screamer pipes!

I am staggered at the negativity towards arguably the best looking and potentially fastest production Ford ever. Seriously, people complain that Ford have nothing, that they concentrate too much on "bland commuter cars" then they bring this out, still whining.

likewise to the 4cyl ecoboost. now look at it. Car companies will go with the times and what will produce a better car. a V6 Turbo will produce the same power, have better torque and be lighter, this will helping with acceleration as well as cornering ability as there is less weight being thrown around sideways. dont get me wrong, a V8 still has its place but not in a car targetting some of the worlds fastest. |

I think too many people get caught up on the cylinder count instead of displacement.

Those four-cylinder turbo Sierras certainly didn't give up any ground to V8s.

As long as the car can perform as it is intended what's the issue? What do people think of the 1 litre 3 cylinder engine being used in their Formula Ford (i think it was)?

Like some other things, the GT is more about what you can do with it, rather then bragging about inches...

More and more people are getting on this bandwagon that V8/10/12's are dying but there's nothing forcing manufacturers from keeping these engines 6L+. Ford have a 2.7L V6 now when 10 years ago they would have made a bigger 4 cylinder. Why not make a smaller V8 when the Gen 2 3.5 V6 and Coyote V8 run out of legs? |

And all the manufacturers are looking globally instead of locally now. The EU does not like large displacement engines.

A bit optimistic if you ask me. I mean the GT will be good no doubting but the point of it being a Ford is that it should be priced like a....Ford. Is Ford trying to be a Lexus with the LF-A?

It would want over 700hp to be priced near an Aventador. Most would expect it to be closer in spec to the Huracan though and other entry level supercars like the Ferrari 488 and McLaren 650/675/whatever it's called next month.
