I have a BAXR8 as a daily which is a great car and goes well, and a V8 XD Falcon which I have had since new as my toy,may not go as hard as the XR but sounds fantastic and is a great cruiser

All of my V8s in my sig are "slow" by Hulk's standards. Yet I have no problem getting enjoyment out of them. But then I'm not concerned with how fast I get from A to B, but rather, doing it in style and sounding great at the same time. Torque on tap without any effort. That includes the "slow" 90s Windsors.

I could not care less. If you want to drive a fridge, drive a fridge.

Detroit Diesels, best sounding diesel engines on the planet.

Its too bad the 6.5L V8 that I linked to didn't have the balls to match its tough noise, I had one of those engines in this thing I used to own:

Went alright, had 600nm torque from 1800 RPM right off the factory floor, only running 8 psi of boost

Engine dates back to the early 1980s, 6.2L was the original one, then it was stroked to 6.5L, different heads and optional turbo in the 1990s, but still indirect injection, later ones electronically controlled which were unreliable.

New owner who bought it lives in Sydney.

I can understand where Hulk is coming from. We need to underline that old cars are not only fuel burning lumps that has adverse effects on the environment, but they have God-awful handling characteristics too.

As we can with the Moffat V8 posted a few posts before, the good ole Mustang can barely turn the corners at extreme slow speed. When the car is gaining momentum at the straights, it begins vibrate from all angels making it hard to keep in control in high speeds.

This is another why modern cars with highly engineered suspension geometry outranks older cars.

Sunday afternoon scenario: Superyob is out cruising in his 18 second across the quarter ZD Fairlane. He rumbles up to the lights which have just turned red. While waiting at the lights, Hulk I6t pulls up beside Superyob's rumbling Fairlane. Determined to hand out a lesson to the vermillion fire behemoth beside him, Hulk I6t spools up his turbo and launches into the distance, furiously flooring the accelarator and leaving Superyob way behind in the land of 'couldn't give a ****'. The only sound Superyob hears as Hulk I6t disappears up the road is 'Iiiiiiiiiiiiimmmmmm, gaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy...

Can't beat a V8, they're the holy grail of most enthusiast in this country.
For example no matter what someone drives or prefers, they always draw comparison to a v8.

To be honest though I am guilty of the occasional 253 mockery over the years but I think it's fair to say I'm not the only one. lol

Xr6t... thats is as bogan as a old v8 in some eyes.... so if u want to sit high and mighty because u have a I6t and not a v8... good for you.

just like if i pulled up next to ur BF Typhoon... (going by ur pic is a car u like or own) and going.... what no heated /cooled seats like my 300, what u dont have a heated steering wheel?? What ur cup holder are heated/cooled? Ur car doesnt have adaptive cruise control?? What ur doesnt leather covered dash? Doesnt have real wood inserts?? It Doesnt have 19 speakers?? Only a 6spd, wow old school much? Man what a piece of junk... i would be ashamed owning a car with lack of luxury and features...so old and behind the times your typhoon is.... u must be a joke of a human been going out in something so unrefined...

Disclaimer: i like the bf typhoon, just making a point....

people are different, with different wants and needs and different wallets. Some people like the sound of a old V8 and thats all they want from a car, some want the look at me factor of a fancy new car, some like luxury, some like the bare basics, some people like tech, some people hate tech, some people like the prius. Some people only care about 0-100, some people only care about safety ratings or fuel efficency, Who cares what others think.. if ur happy with ur car, thats all that matters... to you the turbo falcons/fpvs are great, to the non car person, its a bogan hoon car..

Of course old school V8's have a place on our roads... they remind us modern V8 drivers how average our cars sound.

They deff have their place. But I'll agree that there certainly feels like there's that ten or 20 yr gap of 'recently' outdated v8s that don't sit aswell in more peoples eyes.....or minds!
BUT the longer a car survives and the more that are kept respectable....it doesn't matter what v8 model or brand it is.....it's probably going to get respect from 99% of people! Including non car enthusiasts!

Maybe take v8 4wds and put them in their own totally diff category tho. Who knows who wants an ancient or aging uneconomic v8 tugging around over 2t espescially if it's actually Used offroad! Ouch
Always exceptions tho.....

Back in the late 90s, my dad had an HSV Grange 185i. The car was bold, made a good sound, but I remember hammering at the lights and getting barely beaten by a Magna 3.5 V6. Now that was embarrassing, especially as the Grange was fairly new at the time. Sure there's still a place for them, but you can't judge a car by the number of cylinders.
Check out this Infiniti V6 vs Holden SS V8 drag race. Both 4 door, RWD, naturally aspirated engines. 2.5L of total cylinder volume difference, watch how close they are in performance!

Just a typical hulk thread where he thinks that only cars > 5 years old have relevance. Completely ignorant of any facts, just has his own backfiring opinion to go on. Funny thing is, his turbo-barge would be lucky to fetch the same price as good XW GS or V8 mont.

To make a point relevant to a thread, hulks opinion is a EB V8, and reality and common sense is an Aurion...

hehe....

One can't deny that older v8s all all bark, all huff n puff, big talking and then no bite, deliver nothing when it's time to open the taps.

That's my point, people mock them for their all big talkin huff n puff and then no go..

Go to the drags these days and you still see a tonn of old v8s, sounding tough, stinkin of fuel with big tyres on them... Lucky if they can dip into the 14s

Last time I was at the drags in my mild modded ls1 I kept lining up against an old V8 valient which looked and sounded tough, big tyres and bonnet scoop, I thought I'd be in for a good run for my money the way it looked and sounded...but I completely destroyed him down the strip, multiple times, he was so humiliated and embarrassed he waited to let a few cars through not to have to line me up again... . My ls1 still had a baby seat in the back

I dare say a Toyota aurion would have picked him apart

Ill take that bet..

How many chicks know what an old GT is? they see a cheap old rust bucket of a car. The guy in the Aurion would get credit for having a new car with some air cond that works.

I was driving with a girl from work and a mint old ford pulled out from a side street (I thought it looked great) and I said what would you do if a guy turned up in that.. She laughed and said its feral.

The whole "what chicks like" argument to me is pointless. Some girls like cars, most probably don't. It doesn't matter.

On my wife and I's first date I drove my XW, it was dark and raining heavy so she didn't get a clear view of the car but she assumed it was an old bomb, turns out she was just happy I had a car and a job that's all that mattered to her at the time.

Fast forward 6 years and now she won't let me sell it, not that she ever drives it (she won't if I toss her the keys) but because she knows what it means to me, not because race it, or put it in car shows or anything like that but because it was always a symbol to me that if you work hard you can go get what you want. And that's a message we both want to pass on to our children, so that is what our XW represents in our family and makes us smile whether we are driving it or not. Now do you understand why your neighbour garages his Statesman? His story is probably a lot more interesting than mine!

Reading your threads, sounds like your friends are matched perfectly to your personality. You're going to be a lonely fellow if they start saying that all Falcon's/Commodores are, like sooooo old and boganish.

I will deny that all v8s are all huff n puff and then no bite... Watch this video mate. Maybe the old lambo v10 would be embarrassed by your beloved Aurion too?

All I know is if an Aurion pulls up at a set of lights next to my XW I'm not embarrassed because one of us is always checking out the other persons car and it's never me checking out the Aurion! LOL

Interesting topic. I understand the essence of it as I can relate. I have a BA XR8 with all the usual mods etc. Now days a stockish VE SV6, FG xr6 NA or even sportivo camry will keep me honest of the line. Its a fact of life.Newer tech, newer car etc....

However, on my daily drive to work i drive by a used car dealership and often see the owners car parked outside. He has a XD 351, and a nice VK carby v8 (both non worked e.g, big cams nos etc). Both super super clean.

Now, they are not the quickest cars anymore, my au i6 will take them however its not the point, they are both great cars to drive and own. and thats what its truly about.

If your happy with your v8 then enjoy it for what it is, if your a toyota yaris man well all the very best then. Life is to short to worry about who and what is faster etc. You will be a poorer man for it thats for sure.

The only ones that are laughing at the old V8`s are the ones kicking themselves saying I wish I still had mine or I had the chance to own one of them once and didn't.
If it comes to positive comments against negative ones the positive ones blow away the negative!

I have the best of both world, my daily driver is a 2013 Jaguar XF-R and my weekend car is a 393ci XY. I don't think any one here would say that the Jag isn't a great car, but driving the XY is way more enjoyable. Sure it doesn't have air-con, tv, sat nav, heated seats, active air bag suspension, but it puts a huge smile on my face every time I drive it. Any one that doesn't own a classic car just wouldn't under stand.

Hulk just makes up points that suit the car he's currently driving.

When he wakes up and finally buys a classic, he'll jump the fence and argue black and blue how boring new cars are.
