Does anyone have any opinions as to the accuracy of this formula? The website seems to play down the accuracy of it.

"...that are believed to be close estimates for the average car's performance. These numbers do not mean anything in real life, but they provide a good "estimate" at best. Keep this in mind before you spill these numbers all over your favorite car forums. Many other factors, such as gearing, power curve, drivetrain, and traction relate to acceleration and general car performance."

I have been playing around with a g-tech for a while now and I am pretty confident that it gives reasonably accurate results for 0-60 and 1/4 mile, but it is *REALLY* important that it is mounted correctly. IMO the HP reading is a bit of BS though.

I am happy to lend out my g-tech to anyone who wants to get some figures.

I tested the theory today.

Just took the GTech out today. Warm (VERY Warm) weather, average surface with some bumps (I could feel the rears fighting for grip in runs I did) and in full street trim (that means fuel, spare tyre, road air pressures etc) and ran a 6.84, 6.89 and 6.91 along with a 7.00 and a 7.01 on the good runs. a few other runs were high 7.0x or low 7.1x

In race trim I think that the 6.37 I calculated for my car is pretty close to right. Thats with no spare tyre, low fuel load and a good grippy surface.

Thats nearly half a second! I ditched a passenger and spare wheel and lost 2 tenths.

I used the 0-60 to 1/4 mile calculator on the same site. I apparently should pull a 14.67 1/4. If that is right I will be VERY happy. The g-tech puts me a fair bit behind that.

I've never put much faith in the 1/4 calculators, mine should do a 14.7 @ 88mph.....not bloody likely. I'm no where near a 14.7 and I'm already running 93mph.

The calculator is just that, a calculator. Its not horrendously off but it is not perfect. Its a guide more than anything. Still, at least I got within a reasonable margin of the time so I doubt its massively wrong. Best guess is that in race trim I'd probably do a 6.55 or 6.60
No way to know for sure unless I run the Gtech down the quarter....and have a good look at it half way before it reads the 1/4 time. Unfortunatly I'm concentrating on other things at the time :

When I did mine, I had myself(140kg), instrucor(75kg), sub-box & amps(36kg) and a full tank of fuel. It was full as I was almost empty after doing the laps all day and filled up as I didnt know we were doing slalom course or 0-100 tests.
Here is a link to some footage from the day......http://www.obsession-design.com/oran...tt_ELXR8_2.mov
The 0-100 is at the end.

hi guys
just saw this post and thought its about time i came over from fordforums.com and fixed a user name and profile over here! after all, i am now a member of the E-Series owners club too!
anyways, i used that calculator as it is the most accurate measurement i have (besides one-onethousand....two-onethousand...:P ) and this is what i got:-
Input 1/8th mile track time: 11.4402
Input 1/8th mile trap speed: 62.86
Your 0 to 60 MPH time is approximately: 10.42
thats for a 17.70 1/4 mile time. and i cant believe i am still not the slowest!! (sorry grechie and niko) but then again, thats my best time ever running on Petrol with the power button on, so its probably still pretty bad!

ok well we have had our 1990 fairmont ghia for 1 week now and we did the 0-100kmh test and got a 15.2 that is just lame i have no idea on what if anything is wrong with it but thats way too slow, it has 3.9mpfi 4spd 3.23lsd and every option from factory plus 2 passengers.

WTF something needs to change.

Even with the passengers it should be going better than that. I remember when we converted my old EA to MPI, we took it for a test and with two passeneger and a boot full of tools etc. it was pulling 10.5ish 0-100 this was in a 3 speed with 2.77ss

Check the throttle cable isn't all worn and stretched.

That reminds me, I have to take the other one out as a spare.

I will have new times soon too. C4 with 2500 stall and 300rwkw should up the ante a bit
