In my opinion, I believe she is innocent. If she is guilty she is a bloody good actress. She allegedly tried to smuggle 4.2kg of Marijuana with an Australian street value of around $40,000, yet only worth around $5000 in Bali...that doesn't make sense! We know Bali has laws against the drug trade, extreme to say the least, yet even here in Australia you can get a doctor's certificate in certain circumstances which allows you to use Marijuana legally, and in some European countries it is just as legal as tobacco. I think death or life in jail is a very severe penalty for something that is legalised in many other countries. If it was Heroin, Cocaine, etc, then the punishment may fit the crime.

Every time I see the poor girl on tv now I get tears in my eye's and chest pains...I couldn't stand it if I was her mother.

It's odd how officials were handling her bags without gloves on... So much for obtaining DNA/fingerprint evidence to link Corby to the marijuana.

Innocent, yet screwed. Sad thing is, she will be forgotten in the near future.

As for the Bali 9, they're just expendible pawns. The "King" is still at large, and will just send more pawns into play. Big deal, nine people were caught with drugs. Where'd they get the drugs from? Has this bust impacted on the supplier's ability to continue their work? Apart from a temporary loss of profit, it'll have little impact at all. WOFTAM.

Bali is known for it's marijuana. WTF would someone try and get it into the country when it's all over the place there. I would have belived it more if it was the other way Bali -> Sydney.

I believe this "deal" conspiricy theory was put to an Indonesian court authority by an Australian reporter the other day, and the Indonesian replied "Yes, we have been in negotiations with the Australian government, and if found guilty, she will be returned to Australia to serve her sentence"
The deal apparently also involves the exchange of 11 Indonesians currently in Australian jails.

Take it for what its worth, I have 2 decent sources that suggest...

a) She was already a person of interest by the Federal Police for drug activity.

b) The gear was hydro (and it has been tested) and apparently the gear in Bali is crap in comparison.

c) News outlets know this but it's not as newsworthy as poor attractive young Australian girl being screwed over by Bali legal system.

Also considering recent events, I'm certainly swaying towards guilty and while the sentences are insanely harsh, they surely were known by all parties that have attempted to smuggle drugs there recently... if you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

For anyone interested enough in this whole fiasco, I believe the SUNDAY program on Ch9 (this coming sunday), brings to light some quite compelling new evidence regarding interstate drug trafficking through our airports. And the perpetrators behind it are not lowly baggage handlers, but corrupt Federal Police!
I heard an interview with the reporter that investigated the racket, who, by the way originally thought Corby guilty. This reporter now firmly maintains that Corby is an innocent, unknowing victim caught up in a bungled shipment between Bris & Syd.

I have to agree. Even if they did discover traces of the active ingredient of marijuana in her body, it wouldn't prove that she deliberately attempted to smuggle any quantity of marijuana, all it would prove would be that, at some stage, she has been near it and PERHAPS even smoked or ate it - but even then, not proof that she has used it for recreational purposes, she might have been to a party where others were smoking marijuana, by simply being in the same room, she would have breathed some in.

For example, it was hard to not notice the smell that was very different to the smell of burning tobacco at the Metallica concert my brother and I went to years ago, or the Big Day Out years ago (when Sepultura were going to be there but didn't end up going because from memory Max broke his arm, and so instead Fear Factory played instead). Doesn't mean I smoked marijuana myself either time, but there would easily have been enough in the air on either occasion for it to show up if I had been tested for it.

Now, even given this problem, it wouldn't prove, to any reasonable, logical person, that she was involved with attempting to smuggle marijuana. Just because someone may have used marijuana, it doesn't mean they would be involved with the production, sale or distribution of the drug, the same as just because someone might drive a Ford Falcon, it doesn't mean they were involved in the production, distribution or sale of that Falcon. At the same time, just because someone might never have used marijuana in their life, it doesn't mean they have never been involved in the sale, production or distribution of it, in fact it would be better if they had no interest in it because then they wouldn't be tempted to "sample" it for themselves - it would be like a Holden nut selling Fords, they'd be less likely to decide "I want this Typhoon for myself, I don't want to sell this one, so I'm going to put it aside for myself and buy it myself at trade rather then retail price".

I hope I've made sense, I just think testing her wouldn't prove anything useful to her case.

My personal opinion is: I dont buy it. I think she's too stupid to be the Mrs Asia of the drug import racket into Indo. It doesnt make sense to me with all the cheap drugs flowing in the other direction (to Australia obviously).Yeah Ive been there, the people are great but the Javanese / Indo govt really suck. So guys its D day. I dont have high hopes. Apparently there is 3 charges so even if she gets off 1 still still has to get off another 2. Well hope it all goes well but apparently these judges have heard something like 500 drug cases and never aquitted anyone so very unlikely indeed.
