I even wonder if they are building anymore Fairlanes at the moment, stock levels are fading away already!
I have heard, at the moment due to low sales numbers they do not built them. When a customer orders a Fairlane/LTD they built one up to customer's specs.

The LTD has been built to order for a while. I guess the Fairlane will follow suit until such time FoMoCo issue a date where no further orders will be taken.

LSTerritoryGhia well posted with the pics......
GM keep adding value imo where FoA keep stripping value to make the books balance as close as poss.
As for the Hire Car industry relying on Lane's etc....it's the price son !
Ford have been giving them away.

Not sure about the pricing, but from a Hire Car Perspective (high kays) the Holden V6 just doesnt cut the mustard, thats why the limo guys have stuck to the Fairlanes.

As for Stretch limos and Hearses they have all prodominantly been Fairlanes to, very rarely do you see either in a Statesmen / Caprice.

I suspect that the new Orion LWB will just be a renamed Fairlane. The series needs a fresh new name and look for it to be attactive to customers. I could be wrong, but i wouldn't discount it.

THere wont be a LWB variant.. Its simple.

Its nothing to get concerned about, holden dropped the monaro again last year because it really wasnt making them money, not to mention the crewman / one tonner.

Fords got the Territory now to focus on, Fairlane is a dead horse, the only way to save the Fairlane would have been to perhaps kill the Fairmont and bring Fairmont Ghia back to fairmont pricing and make Fairlane a little cheaper, but even then your only acheiving a few CM of extra leg room in the back, your not getting a car thats any classy, if anything ur getting something thats old hat and boring (compared to BFII FMONT GHIA)

When Ford dropped the V8 in 1982 it was seen as a good idea (to the Ford beanconters), then it bit Ford in the *** as time has shown.

Will dropping the Fairlane and LTD have a similar outcome with Ford? Probably not as bad, time will tell i guess.

Sad, but as stated previously, the writing is unfortunatly on the wall.

Shocking to say the least. Since the BA lauch, ford designers killed the Fairlane/LTD. It was the strech falcon. There wasn't enough option for the value of the money and the style was a falcon base. I'm Apalled at this.

They did so well with the AU. soon as the BA came it went Kapuat!

Well i hope the Ford Interceptor will be the replacement model next year as it will be so competing against the 300C

i would expect that the only good to come of this would be that fairlanes will now increase in value now that they are to be discontinued. so those of you lucky enough to have one...hold onto it, it can only get better from here on in

I am still a firm believer that Ford made a HUGE mistake with the Fairlane/LTD back in the EF/EL era onwars. All the previous models the Fairlane/LTD looked so unique compaired to Falcons/Fairmonts, but with the EF came the similar looking luxurie...it lost alot of appeal to alot of people. Ford should have kept their luxurie rides 10 steps ahead of the rest...

RIP the Fairlane and LTD :(

The AU Fairlane was not a standout success either, same basic interiors as Fairmont / Fairmont Ghia it was not all that popular.

The Fairlane has always struggled for separation from the Falcon - back in the day the ZF & ZG were poor in this area, the ZJ wasn't great either (lucky the Falcon changed). The NF having the same front sheetmetal and dash as the Fairmont was a poor decision although the rest of the car was distinctive at least. The AU was a lot different on the outside at least - I can't remember where the "need a bigger hat" comment came from though, the styling was just awkward. And we know what happened with the BA, its a shame there wasn't the opportunity to rectify the situation, even changing to Territory front & rear lights would give it a different look.

Hopefully when the US finally drops the Crown Vic the opportunity to spin off a lwb for o/s markets might arise, and the Fairlane return - trouble is I'm not sure there is a LHD car on the cards yet.

I forgot to say in the last 12 months (May 06 - Apr 07) from Vfacts figures there were the following sales in the class:
Fairlane - 1312
LTD - 45
Statesman - 2036
Caprice

If the falcon became economically unviable would you all be so accepting, have any of you drove an LTD compared to a Caprice? The Caprice on first impression is the winner but the drive is akin to a BA taxi with 160+k

Camira, Magna, & Escort didn't rise in value. I don't think Fairlane will either.

Some will rise in value marginally. Only have to look at the prices of WB Statesman's in the late 80s and even today they went for an motza for quite a while, double the price of the fairlanes. Reckon in the next 6 months we will see quite a few Fairlanes and LTD's sold as governments, limo companies and hearse companies stock up also, so both new and low klm BA/BF's will go like hot cakes.

Cant see g220's being anything special theyll be relegated to same status as Concorde's and Sportman's.

Comparing Fairlanes to Camiras is a bit off, its not like their is a shortage of small 4 cyl FWD sedans, but big RWD v8's are not exactly common.

I think to many a Statesman and Caprice is still a tarted up commodore, an LTD to many seems a bit more special. I think they will raise in value compared to if FOMOCO Aust. continued making them.
