Got to be the sundowner :p
Oh does my user name give anything away? I love vans, and once I got an XD sundowner and found the factory plastic roof spoiler, the s pack interior, lift gate instead of the ugly barn doors, the rear lights, speakers, and ashtrays on either side, the full length hoodlining, and they have their own Vin number starting with JG47. And that Sun that takes up the WHOLE side of the car, these were just cool! And rarity, Ford can only account for 94 being built - that is 4.1, 4.9, and 5.8 litre cars only 94! I am biased, but I have always loved a fun van, my old girl looks a bit tired on the outside, but the sound of the V8, the yellow paint, the GREEN sun on the back and sides, and the thumbs up I get from every classic car driver - makes me grin every drive!

Force 6 and Force 8 will be like the ESP is today in almost 30 years time.
Nice top of the line package.

Sprints T3's BA BF FG Gt's etc will be the next i reckon.

This may sound a little ambitious but I also think the Tickford XR6 and XR8s of the EB - AU series will be collectible. The fact that they were Tickfords adds that little bit of extra difference against the 'Ford only' XR6 and 8s of today.

I consider the XE ESP's and any "Classic" style car before it collectable already.

My definition of collectable means highly sought after and reflects build quantities vs performance at the time of release, not if I think they will appreciate past their purchase price or anything.

So here goes:

Definates:
EB/EL GT
T3 T-series

Maybe's: (but I doubt it)
ED Sprint
BF Cobra
40th Anniversary GT

That's about all.

Daniel

I think the term "collectible" seems to have many loose, wide and varied meanings going by this thread...

"Collectible" is a very subjective term, what one person thinks is "collectible" another thinks is not, but there are some cars that most would agree are without question..

From a broader sense i think you need to look at the cars that have wide acceptance as "collectible" now and look at the indicators that were present before they became "collectible".

This will give you a clue about the future to some degree..

GT's and GTHO's recovered in value to their original purchase price rather quickly, most within 10 years, GTHO's probably within a couple of years.

Looking at cars after 1982 its hard to see many showing a similar pattern in any way shape or form....

See your point 4V man,
The cobras took a price dive for a while as well,
could have bought a 1 owner XC cobra 5 years ago near 30 K
and many still thought that was dear

I think there is a fine line as to "collectable" or "investment"
Some are collectable and depending on your make/model preference youll pay more than the average punter
But the said car could be worth nuthin to 90% of people
Ive seen XDs command more money than XCs , but which is more collectable ???
Itll be good to look back in say 5-10 years time and see how the current crop go
You can pick up VN,VP ss commodores for not much at all, does it make them collectable

in my mind without a doubt the V8 utes like the SS or XR8 will go up in value, how crazy will they seem in the year 2040.

Probably in the same way the VL Turbo became a classic, but not in the same way as the Walkinshaw.

Old topic I know, but this question was asked at the Muscle Car Masters & while I'm not sure who they were interviewing at the time, but it was a no brainer to who was being interviewed & not just reguarding Fords. They seemed to think the next Aussie muscle car to take off in a big way is the XD & XE ESP's with the 5.8, 4 spds.

They're about 5 years too late for that party, 351 ESP's are well and truly on their way now.

Anything with a V8 is going to be a collectible one day.
With the environment and all the pressure on car manufacturers to reduce consumption, anything with 8 or more cylinders will be a memory eventually.

I can’t see any of them becoming collectable…

But if I had to have a guess…

Maybe the tickford fairlanes.

I pray to god the CPI 3spd EA S-Pac becomes collectable.
