My brother wants to go to Bali. I should tell him to forget it and go elsewhere.

Not many. Give it a week or too, wait for Ray Martin to get bored with doing the live long shots of some Balinese gaol. And it will all be back to normal.

Ray will be solving all know cancers, and fixing the road toll. The doccumentary media will milk the story for all its worth, so the Indos wont be backing down any time soon.

We will continue to get fed media hype on whatever they can get a buck and some rating points from.

And all the sheep like Aussies will be bragging about how much cheaper than Queensland Bali is and how they all this got shit cheap and the "Been to Bali too" t-shirt.

The fact that some photogenic woman is the token victim of all this is of no concern to any of them. If it was an acne'd pot head from the suburbs no-one would've given a stuff, he'd have got 30 days and a deportation. Sad really.

Hmmm, I just held my own court case here, I just catagorically proved the Tsunami did NOT hit Indonesia ....all aid has been withdrawn. Indonesia can appeal this of course, in about 20 years.

If she's innocent I feel terrible for her. I also think more anger needs to be directed to the mysterious bagage handlers that caused the problem in the first place. The courts were always going to find her guilty when her defense was "I don't know how it got there". If the drugs were planted on her lets see an investigation into who planted them.

A terrible outcome regardless.

i think shes guilty and have held that belief since the 60 mins interview. the judges can only go on evidence provided not what a bunch of aussies reckon. and the evidence was pretty far on the guilty side. marijuana in her blood test, refusal to open the bag the 1st time. time for australians to stop being led around by the nose by 60 minutes and a current affair.

That, just like everything out of hinchs mouth is complete and utter bullshit. Corby is not more attractive then any other normal Australian... This strikes a cord with people because any ordinary hard working aussie could have the same fate in that contry.

Corby is not the first australian to find drugs in her baggage, but nobody even interviewed these other people!

this is true but this doesnt add up, why the hell would she want to import grass to a country that produces more than here.

I think they indoneisans are using this as pay back for east timor.

and considering how much john howard has given the bastards it doesnt seem very fair.

Speaking of the little weasle if this was a member of parlements son or daughter or someone who was from big business.

This is what I thought as well. However both News & Fairfax were reporting today that hydro-grown pot is worth a fortune on the streets of Bali. It seems the locally grown stuff is very weak & the locals love our Aussie stuff.

I have no interest in either pot or Bali so I don't know what the truth is. I just thought it was interesting.

Fact is when you're a visitor in their country you play by their rules - nothing new about that.

Yep I can see your a media sponge. If the PM is supposed to be playing superman and rescueing contractractors who went to Iraq for the bucks, and tourist who want to go to holiday in countries with kangaroo courts, whilst simultaniously protecting every potential deportee who canot remember their own name, then when is he going to have time to actually run the country? The tourist dollars will keep flooding in despite any Government embargo.

I don't believe she is guilty and for her to now have to serve 20 years in prison is just too wrong to comprehend. I just can't see how someone could be so stupid as to try and smuggle that much pot in an unlocked boogie board bag. It makes so much more sense that someone else put it there expecting that someone else would take it out at the airport in Sydney. The justice system in Bali is crap, I will certainly never be traveling there. John Howard needs to take a good look at himself as well, gutless little weasel.

I am never going to Bali, still in total shock at the verdict. What a nightmare, the punishment certainly doesn't fit the crime.

Simple, just tell them to have her on a plane we provide within 24 hours. For every 24 hours extra it takes them to comply, we deduct $50 million off our aid package. I'm guessing 1 week and $350 million later....they will sit up and take some notice.

The judges decided their verdict on the evidence presented to them. No amount of us jumping up and down crying "Indonesia's justice system sucks" and the like can change that. Enforcing our value system on Indonesia's legal system is rather ludicrous in my opinion, of course we're going to think our system is better than theirs. Who are we to tell them?

As for those who suggested that we should stop giving them aid, etc, get real? Have you not once considered that if you were in the judges position, looking at the evidence that there's a chance she may actually have done it? It seems the Australian media's spoonfeeding of the facts has clouded the judgement of many people (not just on this forum). Accusations of corruption and the like were never going to help her either and it isn't as if Australia is squeaky clean in those regards.

There'll be numerous appeals anyway, also the chance of a presidential pardon so it's not going to end right now.

Doesnt seem at all consistant with the punishment handed out to the Bali bombers, whats worse killing people or having a bag of choof?

Guilty or not, I know that different countries have different justice systems, but to overlook something as crucial as getting the fingerprints/DNA/Camera footage on the bag which would of made the outcome more definate one way or the other, is bloody stupid to leave out of the case

Considering she could have got life or the death penalty and over there life is until you die in prison, she got a light sentence.
As has been said there is still the appeals which if they go the full distance could be another 6 to 8 months.

I think the Judges leaned her way.

Its ****ed. Thats a shocker. No doubt their tourism will suffer. My understanding of it was that there was enough resonable doubt that was raised.

Even if she did do it i dont think its as worse as blowing the shit outta people. They need reform in a bad way. Even our system isnt full proof but theirs is utter crap. Id rather be dead than spend 20yrs in jail. Shes young and she can just kiss her life goodbye.

Hope the appeals will bring a better result.
