Remember Jurassic Park and the scene with the T Rex Looking under the cars? Yeah well i used to think every rainy night(like in the movie) he would be looking straight through my window with his eye looking directly at me!! i never dared to look under the curtains lol
I also used to think that my Dads old KF Ford Laser was the Best car in the world due to the awesome Heat Controls in the mornings! |

Hahahaha there are some hilarious ones here. I had pretty much all the common misconceptions; the exhaust pushed the car along (thats why I thought people got bigger/more exhaust pipes to go faster), the world used to be black and white, when driving on a multi lane road you are in a race against other cars etc...
I also had a few movie influenced misconceptions such as Deloreans and phone booths being time machines, drawing a door on your wall led you to another world and some others. Can't really remember much now.

Not mine but one of my friends used to think that oranges were made in a factory and that the actors on play school were convicted felons. She said she thought that because why would anybody else want to do that job.

I had 2 older brothers. Being the naive young one I believed anything and everything they said. The best one to date was when they sat me down and quietly told me I was adopted and was being sent back to my family. I cried for hours.

I got in trouble and some parents had a go at my Mum because I yelled out "Santa isn't real" in grade 3 while we where doing christmas letters to "Santa". Apparently I ruined everyones Christmas.
Also I vaguely remember bringing up that if you drove over the median strip you had to pay extra taxes. Last edited by Franco Cozzo; 15-01-2010 at 12:39 PM. |

- I use to think my dad picked the fruit that went to Cottee's, that made the cordial that I liked best, because that's what he told me his job was.
- That the 'Litres' in reference to an engine were how many litres of fuel needs to run it. - That if I watched the windscreen wipers go back and forth my head would unscrew an fall off - The if I played with 'it' to much, it would fall off - That if you opened all the doors on the car while it was moving you would fly -That 20c was more than $1 because the coin and the number are bigger - That I would never be able to remeber which side of the road to drive on - That knives and forks made babies and thats were we get spoons from - That fireworks explode when the hit the top of the sky I had cruel parents that made me believe to crazy things, its strange that it ended up so well adjusted |

I used to think that the exhausts on a car actually pushed them along.
-That my face stayed like this cause the wind changed direction. -That 2 wrongs made a right. Not much has changed, still believe stupid stuff. Mainly what the media feeds us.

This is a great thread. Heres some of mine:
- When people got married and they "kissed the bride" then an egg would go through the man's mouth into the woman's and that would make her pregnant. - My mate had me believing that his Toyota Avalon was better than my dad's AU Falcon because it had power windows and a CD player. - It was illegal to drive a car with red number plates. - Girls didn't do number 2s. Ever. |

A really, really silly one: I used to think my brother in law's GT had oval pipes the whole way along, underneath. This was until of course I did some further inspecting! (Never really saw the car with the bonnet up either, so this probably helped in preventing knowing the 'truth'!)

This thread keeps coming back for more and I now begin to remember another misconception I had: My father has a vintage car (Nash) which has compression braking. He didn't want me to fiddle with the knobs and switches in the car when I was a child, so he told me that if I ever touched the knob on the dash, the car will never start again. I actually believed it and that's probably why I'm still afraid of that little knob on the car's dash.

I was 6 when I first saw a WA plated car. I started thinking they where 70's cars. Leaving WA airport I thought that the row of WA plated cars where all 70's models. So I said this out loud haha. Parents thought I was mad

Watching tennis as a kid i thought there was an off-side rule like in soccer because the players wouldn't run after theball if it was a clean winner.
