Old man can't drive at the moment, so commanding the shitbox i30N for him, I hate that thing, Hyundai can't make 'sports' cars for shit, can't believe Ford left the market to those clowns
Its fast and the stereo is good, its not nice to drive though, the biggest killer is the shitty throttle response and how it picks and chooses how it wants to react to your throttle inputs, its pretty similar to how the VF Commodore throttle works, which is shit - ignores your throttle inputs or wants to think about things before it responds. Behaves strangely, like sometimes it'll automatically pick up the r evs itself when you clutch in, other times it won't, other times it ignores your throttle inputs, other times it behaves normally, the way the throttle is mapped is retarded. You've got to be really aware and do your throttle inputs before you'd normally do them at things like roundabouts to give the car time to process when I'm pressing the accelerator MEANS I WANT THE ****ING ACCELERATOR SO MORE REVOLUTIONS PLEASE. Or when you get off/on/off the throttle with subtle inputs confuses it big time. When ti first starts up it feels like it calibrates the bimodal exhaust to detect its open and closed positions so it'll open/close/open/close/open/close the exhaust as well which is about as annoying as you can imagine because the car goes BRRRRRrrrrrrrrRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Cruise control implementation is crap too compared to Ford, doesn't maintain speed really well. Its just a combination of little things like this which make Hyundai's N vehicles a bit of a joke, 95% of the job has been done, the last 5% is the deal breaker. I don't think its too hard to make the throttle response instant, it is in Ford's ST range, their cars respond instantly to the tiniest throttle inputs on the pedal. The Ford cruise varies model to model
One Focus Lt or Lz used to hold the required speed down hill One didn’t Lz I think Puma runs over the cruise speed down hill then readjusts but by then you have a speed ticket always spot on flat roads |

And the thing is, Kia (and Hyundai) crowed on and on about having an ex-BMW M-car chief engineer on the payroll, which was repeatedly mentioned in each and every review or news piece about the car. But the car they delivered was nobbled with overzealous electronic nannies and a lame exhaust note. As much as anything, the Stinger was a marketing exercise with no substance, designed to convince non-car people that Kia made desirable cars. As for the i30N, one of my detailing peers has the sedan version (Elantra N in the USA). At one point, the car would go into limp mode every time he washed the car, which have it back to the dealership to have the code cleared. Months and months later, its apparently fixed (something to do with moisture egress), but he's wary of washing the thing.

Thats what the old man has - why they called it the 'i30N' here in Australia, when its on a different platform is ridiculous, why have two different cars, on different platforms, in the one market, called the same name? It should be called Elantra N here too. They're completely different cars from each other. He would have gone for the smaller I20N, but none to test drive and they stopped taking orders, also went into a Ford dealership for a Focus ST cancelled order but got laughed out of there |

Not really ever saw them in the first place, but saw one of the original Audi Quattros with its bonnet up on the side of the road this morning.
I suspect it was going to cars and coffee about 10 mins further down the road.

200%.... We have an i30, it's a year old and the inconsistent throttle response is fair dinkum dangerous. Experienced it again today changing lanes and it could have gone very badly. Does using sport mode make any difference? Honestly, if it can't be addressed, I will be trading it much sooner than I really wanted to.

Desperately needs to be tuned I reckon, the first thing you'd do is **** off Hyundai's shitty tuning and make it respond to your throttle inputs without thinking about it. Reminds me of the VF Commodore V6, at least the VF is consistent though, the irony is the throttle body on the VF can go from closed to wide open throttle in 40ms, which is faster than you can physically stomp the throttle pedal - they just program it like mongs. |

It's much like the Isuzu Dmax's at work, you have to plant your foot a second before you strategically enter a roundabout. I preload the accelerator while holding the brake to get a better launch.

The i30N is ****ing chronic, driving that thing makes me want to drive it off a cliff its so aggravating to drive, combined with a manual box its such a pain in the *** The weighting of the clutch isn't real good either, its super soft and uneven in its travel. |

I got for the son a 2020 i30N coupe manual, drove it up from Melb to Syd and used it now and then in the Syd burbs, I experience NO throttle lag whatsoever.
In fact that car impress me alot but for 2 things, wish it was AWD, in sports mode it rides like a dog on rough surfaces but handles on rails.

Spotted this 1985 Ford Meteor on Marketplace, only 82,000 km on the clock. But naturally, the most important feature of the car is the Ming Rust Proofing, Ming Paint Protection and Ming Fabric protection.
