It was the first time the redback have beaten them in T20, right?
I thought Christian did a good job in his bowling. I expected better batting from Hodge though.

Marcus North has been named in a 13 man squad for the next Test.
Hmmmm.

If Katich is fit Play him and Hughes and drop North. Play Watson at 4 and Hussey at 6 where he got of his runs early. That would be a good batting line-up for me.

i know there's a saying that's been going around for a while. "It's harder to get dropped from the Australian cricket team than it is to get in it". Seems true enough to me.

i assume hilfenhaus is still injured, or at least not fit to play?
i wouldn't be surprised if katich gets left out for one more. team will be left as is. |

It certainly looks like an unchanged team for the 3rd test. I really do hope we see some youngsters get a chance in the 2 test series in new zealand later in the year. I would really like to see some work put into Steve Smith from NSW. He looks like a good prospect for the future both batting and bowling. My only fear is he'll go down the same path as White and focus on batting more than bowling. I suppose only time will tell.
Personally i don't like 2 test series, i'd much rather 3 games 2 is just too short for me. Quite frankly i think they're a bit of a waste. |

is steve smith the young leggie they've been on about. warne reckons he needs another couple of years before being exposed to test cricket. i think t.jenner said the same thing. hopefully they listen to the experts and don't try to hurry him along.

Very interesting revelations coming out of the pakistan camp in regards to Umar Akmal. Apparantly faking a side strain in protest of his brothers probable dumping for the third test. Now as a good player he is and a great future prospect i don't see him having a future in the pakistan team if these are the actions he's gonna take. In all fairness his brother dropped 4 very important catches. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/cr...+australia_rss
Also it appears Peter Siddle has put international duties ahead of the IPL. He has come out and said he'd rather spend that time resting for upcoming series as playing for australia is more important than chasing the money. I for one applaud him and hope others not only in the australian team but world cricket follow his actions. I strongly believe the IPL will be the death of cricket as we know it if not carefully monitored. |

After a shaky start we seem to be getting into a decent position. Both Ponting and Clarke are actually making a stand, although Ponting really should be out. That has to be one of the worst drops in Test history, it was down his throat, he didn't have to move and he was nicely under it (Aamer IIRC) and he managed to spill it. Terrible, terrible fielding.
192/3 @ Tea. Ponting 84no Clarke 59no at Tea.

Fantastic innings by Ponting. Extremely hard work for the first 50, dropped on 0 and made pakistan pay in the best possible way. Now we wait for clarke.

how's the pakistan bowling? negative is an understatement. you aren't going to get a batsman out bowling wides. esp given the 2 batsmen are both centurions.
well done to punter and clarke, 200+ partnership, both with hundreds... too bad its the last test of our summer. great to see ponting finally do well at his home ground. doesn't have the best record down there. |

Absolutely atrocious tactics from pakistan, such a good bowling line-up reduced to wide outside offstump is laughable. The umpires should really take control and start calling more wides. They're leaving themselves effectively 1 way to get the batsman out but Clarke and Ponting have been too good for them.
On a positive Clarke has joined Ponting in the century club for the game. Great captains and vice captains knocks, 200+ run partenship really what was needed at 3/72. |

2 run outs with salman butt involved heavily in both and pakistan are in massive trouble. 4/84 chasing australia 8/519 seems like a bit of a lost cause. Siddle seems to be hitting some form following the lead of ponting and clarke and australia are looking really good yet again.

not sure about others, but i quite enjoy the cricket show segment where they are out on the field answering emails and demonstrating correct techniques. today they had young tom healy helping out with some wicket keeping drills and i thought he did great. obviously keen to follow in his dad's footsteps.
good to see the older retiree's (slats, tubby, warne etc) giving tips to the youngsters. even though i'm not involved in any cricket, i occasionally have a hit down the park and even i find the tips helpful. the pitch is obviously pretty good for batting. pakistan are only 4 down due to 2 run outs otherwise they would be a lot more in the game. even though its only day 3, australia have a tough job to get 16 more wickets and maybe score a few more runs too. |

katich finally gets a bowl and now has 2 wickets in 2 overs. nearly every commentator that does aussie games, is always calling for more overs from katich but for some reason ponting rarely uses him.

Recently he has had a shoulder issues as the commentators have mentioned, having said that i think after this innings we may just see a bit more of him. Absolutely tearing the heart out of the Pakistan batting order.
Hauritz now getting a wicket with some pretty impressive drift and spin. |

ritz lucky not to be picked up on a front foot no ball. i will never understand why (aussies seem worst culprits) bowlers need to get so close to the line when bowling. surely 30cm won't make any difference up the other end. esp the spinners. coming in off 3 steps and almost overstepping. odd.

If the rain holds off this game could be over fairly quickly. It really needs Umar Akmal to stand up, it's a lot to ask of such a young man but this innings really could make him as a player.
Shane Watson really has impressed me, he really has proven to be a fantastic batsman (i still think he should bat at 4), The way he reverse swings the ball really has caused some troubles for the batsman and will get a lot more wickets as 2nd change bowler if he continues with it. A little dissapointed we didn't see ponting get his 40th test hundred. Good on Katich for his 9th test hundred. All in all Watson has been the player of the summer for me, Hauritz has surprised a lot of people including myself and is proving to be a reasonably handy bowler. Still very much improving and if he gets his doosra going will just ad that bit more to his bowling. Good to see Ponting and Clarke in great form to finish the summer of test cricket. Bring on the one dayers and most importantly the Ashes next summer. (Not a great fan of 20/20, too much hit out or get). |

That's it, all over. Pakistan all out for 206 after a great effort by Khurram Manzoor and Mohammad Aamer. Aus wins by 231 winning the series 3-0.
Shane Watson gets Man of the Series with Hauritz not far behind. Ponting got Man of the Match understandably.

speaking of england and RSA. real topsy turvy series just completed over there. 4 tests - 1 all and 2 draws. eng won 1st by innings and 90runs. RSA won last by innings and 74 runs and 2 drawn games in between. both times eng were 9 down and hung on, similar to what they did to us at cardiff. the english cemented their reputation for liking a whinge, having a decent crack at the review system and 3rd ump d.harper in the process. |
