However may not disclose if a car has been badly damaged and then repaired. Ild call RAC and ask if there vehicle checks can find out if a car has been previously damaged and then repaired. As for a road worthy cost.... Im in W.A and we don't have them ( yet ) : : : But there was a thread not long ago with prices of roadworthys in the eastern states.

Road worthies usually cost around the 50-60 mark each visit.
As for the info on the car, if it has been in a crash and gone through insurance, been in a crash, previous owners and any finance still owing on the vehicle. Go into Vicroads or the like and ask for a vehicle security register cert. I think they cost around $15. You will get a print out of what has been noted on the vehicle. or you could ring them up and find out the Vehicle Securities Register number and they can type it into their computer and give you some info on it. Hope this helps mate, and good luck EDIT: As mostly said above

On an '88 Prelude does it matter? A good nic one would be few and far between and its it has been written off previously it would have been years ago. If its still on the road now it would have to have been fixed properly.

Think we just found the seller of the Prelude^^^^ I think it matters on any car. Some people like a car that is spot on that won't have any problems come back up from a write-off. If it's on the road now, it means nothing. They could have only had it on the road a week or so and then decided, crap!!lets get rid of it before something breaks.

A REVS check will not always reveal if a car is on the WOVR,particularly if you are in NSW.The best database is held by Vicroads but you have to specifically ask for a WOVR check otherwise they will only tell you if the car is under finance or stolen.
