Sounds like a dealer-spec special.

Try in the AU section, you'll have better luck in there

I have just sold an r-series (Monday).

Denmac (and I believe Torque and Metro too) Ford got a good deal on x-police cars. They sold them for $22,888 driveaway with a wing and some alloys, a red pinstripe and some r series stickers and/or embossed into any number of seats. The bad news is that it is nothing more than a dealer special.

Here's the good news...

They generally had LSD (3.45 ratio), tickford suspension, ABS, Police speedo (increments for every 2kph rather than 5kph) and dual airbags.

Some buyers were lucky enough to get xr6 164kw motor and deeper front seats (becasue cops wear utility belts but still need to sit down to drive).

I buy and sell many fords and have come across a few. My father and Uncle bought the R-series from the dealer (12months or 40,000kms was the cop limit). They were both able to get the xr6 engined ones.

Have a look at your speedo, then have a look at the size of your catalytic converter. The speedo should be marked for every two kph. If you have the bigger cat u may also have the 164kw engine (some didn't have red rocker cover, some did).

They are a great car to drive hard. Funniliy enough the TARE weight for the xr6 spec ones is listed as only 1438kg. I've never found out why. They ride a bit harsher and seem to have more road noise)

Pity they are all autos

Thanks Ehast13 it has a sticker inside the door saying campaign end date etc so i figured it may have been an ex cop car. how can i tell if its an lsd just by looking at it ? also what sort of price would be fair for it ? i bought it with no front end as such , missing bar grill headlights bonnet otherwise is immaculate - cheers

the campaign sticker is for factory recalls (like the steering rack bolt that undid by it self so they welded it to prevent any more people driving on the wrong side of the road with the steering wheel straight haha

OPT20 = ex cop. What ehast13 said is about the best info you'll get. Usually LSD's will have a large yellow tag around the diff filler hole that says "LSD" on it.

Well thats a new one.

I could imagine them having the OPT20 but not an XR engine. Pics would be good.

parting it out cos i bought it with the intention of slapping a front end on it and selling it with 12 months rego but wreckers want stupid amounts for front panel parts - parting out sounds easier given up on the idea of making money off it , just want to cover my outlay :( - will post pics on weekend

The one I sold last week was a friends car and no-one would trade it in (typical we don't need the car, we'll knock $1000 of the new car price etc) on a new xr6 turbo. I bought it for 2grand (no rwc) I cleaned it up and another mate wanted to buy it so I sold it to him for 2 grand plus RWC costs ($0 - it was pretty good) plus a small fee for my detailing/TLC efforts.

As for the xr6 engine. Some cars have it, some don't (as per ef/el pursuit cars). Some have the red rocker cover some don't. First time I realized that some had the xr engine but not the red rocker was when I pulled the head off one and needed to replace some valves. They have the (from memory) 41mm exhaust valves instead of 39mm and of course cam differences and bigger bore cat.

I'll look up my charts on monday and see what the difference is.

I was told OPT20 car had less sound proofing but it was hardly from a reliable source.

just a slight update, pulled the lsd down last night and its a 3.23 h/p lsd not 3.45 as suggested - does this make it better or worse ? i realise its all relative but generally speaking what would people prefer to have ?
