Default NSW Police BF/BF2 Falcon's

G'Day everyone,

I know topic's like these have been covered before, but I was just wondering how exactly NSW Police BF/BF2 Falcon XT's differ from regular XT's.

Cheers

I don't know about nowadays but the cop cars from 10 years ago used to have:
2km increment speedo
Electric Windows all round so they could be locked
Sometimes different diff gears
Courtesy Lights over the rear doors
A switch on the dash to turn on and off the interior light
And a few other things i've forgotten.

Dash Cluster has a police mode, Interior Lights have a police mode. Some Police cars and taxicabs had extra lights in the back. There's a different engine-bay loom for ancillaries. Taxicabs take their per-km data from a line in the passenger footwell.

I'm not aware of any other differences other than the wheels.

Not sure of the police XT's. I know the Queensland Ambulance commodore sedans are the same as a QLD police sedan and the differences are minimal. The only differences I can see is a larger capacity electrics for all the ancillary equipment, LSD, suspension (FE2 in holden speak) and steel wheels with different spec tyres. No engine mods at all.

Not to mention red/blue lights, siren, stickers and holes all over the dash and console from the gear that is mounted inside.

Oh and from what I've heard, not 100% sure, bigger alternator and starter motor due to added electrics.

They used to be different in the old days, which gave them a few extra options making and ex cop car worth buying. not so much these days.

Not sure about the starter motor, can not see why it would need a bigger one.

I have just looked at our station's sedan and it definately has a twin battery setup in the boot, leading me to believe it would need a larger alternator to charge them. It also definately has FE2 suspension. I have been told they run the same size brakes as standard but do have different pad materials. I have driven them and have not noticed anything unusual about the speedo as they have digital readout in the centre, I bet they are calibrated to greater accuracy though. In comparison to the earlier non-police spec cars we had (just striped up povo pacs) they definately have better handling, better brakes but no different in power.

I know this is all on a Commodore but you can bet the Falcons will be a similar spec. If I ever go to a station that has a falcon I will have a look.

In Qld they were mostly Futuras, with 4 electric windows, courtesy lights, spin resistant diff(not true LSD), and 4 air bags for safety being the main differences, most also had the lowered suspension pack

No differences in engine, starter, cluster, alternator on any recent ones I have bought. They even put the mags back on before they sell em

Nowdays you are hard pressed to find a Falcon as the govt has changed most general duties cars to Camrys and 4 cylinder models.
Still get the odd one from country areas and traffic branch but.

They've got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas

I had a 9C1 ex Police VT, that bash plate was a real monster. I remember running over a housebrick once, and was dreading the sight of my sump after the noise it made. Got out and had a look and there was just a little smudge on the plate and pieces of smashed brick all over the road
