If true then makes it even more of a tragedy than if just mechanical malfunction. BUT wouldnt this truck be LHD?

The image, which appears to show the elderly driver using both hands to take pictures while driving the restored WWII truck, was sent to radio station 774 ABC Melbourne.

"My estimate is there was only 25 to 30 seconds between when I took the photo of the truck until it stopped after driving through the soldiers," the anonymous listener told Jon Faine's program this morning .

"When the truck hit the marchers it continued at about twice the speed of marchers at an even pace for a short distance — then the truck stopped with the engine revving fast."

A group of more than a dozen veterans can be seen marching just metres in front of the truck in the photograph.

Six members of the Ceylon Ex-Servicemen's Association were struck when 64-year-old driver Russell Hughes accidentally accelerated into them at the conclusion of the Melbourne march on April 25.

Five were hospitalised — including 87-year-old Sydney Ludowyke, who suffered a broken pelvis and hip.

The ABC forwarded the photograph to Victoria Police, which is investigating the case.

The heavy duty military vehicle was examined by police mechanics after the incident.

Mr Hughes, who was overcome with emotion after the crash and collapsed at the scene, admitted that he originally feared he had killed several of the marchers.

Couldn't quite make out the photo when i saw it on telly - hope the vets are ok, hope this is looked into

If you look closely at the photo it is RHD you can see the steering wheel
