Default 9/11, let us remember.

I'm a few hours early but thought I'd do it now rather than midnight.
Let us remember those who died in the world trade centre attacks, be they civilians, fire fighters or the many emergency services crews who gave their lives trying to save innocents.
9 years on I still think I could have lost my cousin who was on the ground floor of tower 1 when the plane struck.
Let us remember, lest we forget..

I remember this day as if it were yesterday. I have my personal thoughts about who is to blame on this, but I will not discuss it further in case it causes controvery. I will remember those who lost their lives on this world changing day.

You're about 28 hours early.

Tomorrow night at about 11pm will be when it happened (our time). I was 17 at the time and saw the regular Channel 10 news suddenly switch to what was happening (before 2nd plane hit). We were glued to the tv for the the next 7 hours.

One of my good friends lost his mother that day. She was in one of the towers. Getting his phone call is something I will never forget.

Every year it brings back sad memories.

I agree Iggy. Lest we forget.

Despite my thoughts on this matter, the deaths of those people are not justified in any case. May they be remembered for that reason as opposed to the speculation surrounding it.

I remember it like it was yesterday too. Even though it has a much greater magnitude than the assignation of JFK or Lennon, like they say.. you'll always remember what you were doing the day you heard.

I remember seeing the TEN late news suddenly switch over to a " plane crash in New York city " and a " possible terrorist connection "

The next morning, I think for the first time ever we switched over to CNN on Pay TV.. and watched the fall out.

There was sort of an ironic twist to it, not to sound insensitive at all, or even if that was the best word to use. I was in Year 12 at the time, 18 years old and part of a generation that had never experienced war or anything of this scale. And the concept of terrorism was something that existed in movies and television.

I was too young to truly understand the first gulf war, or the several incidents that followed during the 1990s. And probably a little too ignorant in my early teens to really show empathy towards anyone who has suffered during any of the conflicts throughout Europe and the middle-east during that period.

I remember looking around, seeing half of my year 12 class sitting in near silence in the home-room gathered around a small radio. Again, a generation who had never truly experienced anything like this, or as a class or high school had, thankfully, never experienced any really tragedy.

It was almost a mixture of confusion for the most of it, but really at it's core was the realization on so many people's face that, the world wasn't the happy place we had always been lead to believe.

This day 9 years ago unfortunatly changed the way people think in this world. Not only that it was one of if not the most tragic days and lost of life in world history.

RIP to the people that died and a salute to the heroes of this infamous day

It certainly is and as much as a tragedy the WTC attacks were I dont believe it is fitting to offer an ANZAC memorial line to them.
That is something that should be reserved for the war heros.

He fortunately was not home when it happened

I was 9 when I woke up in the morning of September 12 getting ready to go to school and we where all left wondering why CheezTV wasn't on, we missed out on Pokemon, oh the horror!

But now I look into it, I regret not having taped it to reflect back on what happened now that I'm older.

Like many others here have mentioned the events of 911 is something that you will never forget in your living memory. Just like the assasination of JFK.

Such a waste of life, and so much more life has been wasted because of that awful event.

It's a time when the world changed forever - for the worst in my opinion. A lot of the innocence and freedom in civilised countries changed for good and with it came all sorts of new laws.

On another note, the reconstruction is well under-way with One World Trade Centre at about 30 stories height and the memorial is something special where two pools will be set in the exact same foot prints of where both of the towers once stood. Koenig's Sphere will also be returned to it's original location after surviving relatively unscathed after both collapses.

R.I.P to all the souls tragically lost that day.

Aside from all the obvious thoughts that come to mind remembering this terrible event, I always find myself marvelling at the heroism of all those emergency services people who chose to risk, and in many cases lose, their own lives to try and save others.

Its a day that also makes me thankful for everyone who choses to spend any part of thier lives in any of the emergency services that serve us all.

This also brings back a flood of memories for my family & I as were were scheduled to Holiday in the US three days later. After much soul searching & advice from US friends we decided to continue on our travels as a mark of respect as much as anything.

Never forget waking up on the couch as I had fallen asleep to the TV and I remember watching the most amazing movie with the best special effects of planes flying into buidlings and the Trade Centre towers collapsing.
When It clicked that it was real It was a real shock.
So many horrible deaths. My thoughts are with those who died. The sheer fright would have been so so terrible.

My wife and I were there about 8 weeks after it happened. As we had everything scheduled (paid for and all)
Flying over Manhattan Island, was very eeire, the dark area (blackout) was so noticeable, very overwhelming.
We visited ground zero. The streets were clean and you could only get to 2 blocks from it. One of the most squeamish scenes I have ever seen. The joint was still burning and you could smell "death" and a lot of sulphur.
Probably the closest I've ever been to, I suppose, a war scene. My guts were messed up for a while.

And we had tickets to go up to there too (Windows on the World).

The Foxtel one is a great perspective, I've never seen some of this stuff. They captured the final nail. Due to the heat, it melted the steel and started to pour over the side of the building. In all accounts of "this is the way it fell", no one commented on the melted steel pouring over the side. It was so hot, it was like a foundry. Seconds later, it fell. Crazy Stuff.
