Forklift licence question

Just a quick one..

I live in SA.. I am currently serving a driving disqualification, can you hold a forklift ticked with a disqualified licence?

Just was't sure as me old man has a fordlift ticket and it is done at services sa now he was saying..

You can drive the fork on private land only, if for what ever reason you need to drive it on a public road as I need to do with mine you won't be allowed to drive the forklift...

If the fork needs a reg disc or papers as there is obviously no discs anymore then yes you need a car licence....like what was said above. If the fork is only driven on private land then u won't need one.

Forks are now classed as high risk and u now have to get a photo licence.
I had to upgrade this last year at a cost of 70 bucks I think it was and believe it has to get done every five years from memory.

Yep, mine was 69 bucks for 5 years in SA. My old one that had to be handed in was nationally accredited and was forever!!! Broke state governments keep changing the rules to make money.
By the way, last bloke that lost his license where I work also lost his job.

Same here and mine went from open to 10t

Fat lot of good that is when my company does 16t - 60t forks

I did my high risk mid last year....I can drive any forklift as long as it steers with the rear wheels...

i.e. no articulated forks, etc

When I got mine I was told I can drive any except for the order picker(which isn't really a fork anyway.

The wife has here forklift licence and it shows up on her driver's licence as part of the class she's allowed to drive, at least I think it is.

Best bet would be to call Service SA and ask them.

sry for butting in the thread, but I just sent my forklift papers to the aus post today. can I still drive the fork until I get the licence thru the mail?

If you've passed the test recently it would be valid from when you passed. Same as with a car license, you pass the test, you can drive. The photo license comes in the mail after a couple of weeks. If you're renewing and it hadn't expired when you paid the fee at Aus Post, then it would continue to be valid as your payment is recorded as paid when you submitted it to Aus Post, not when they send the photo license out. You could use your copy of the paperwork as proof in the meantime.

It's only valid for 60 days after ur test. As long as u sent the original n.o.a in u should still have pink interim copy. If u sent it in after the 60, its worthless.

ah cool thanks. I'm surprised how easy it was just to get it, rock up answer the 60 questions, drive up and down the driveway and your licenced to drive a high risk machinery.

yeah this is the 2nd time I had to go for it cause I didn't send thru the post within the time, almost got fired for that lol.

might be a good idea to check with the police. I know car parks in major shopping centres are classed as "road related areas" and subject to road rules and licencing requirements despite being private property ( at least this is the case in NSW) .
I used to spend a fair bit of time in court as a volunteer support worker and I saw quite a few cases where people thought they were right to drive or to break traffic laws in the car park but they were convicted.
do yourself a favour don't listen the AFF lawyers get proper legal advice to avoid a nasty surprise

I got my tickets back in the early 90's for forklift/bobcat/dogger/gantry crane/end loader/excavator/mobile crane - they were considered as "life" tickets. Then they brought in the HRWL for fork/dogger/crane with the 5 year brief. Changeover was easy apart from filling in the forms, I used a blue ink pen and submitted the forms to the local post office - this was not acceptable as the form had to filled in black ink - WTF! I remained calm went to the next nearest post office with the same form and all was good.

My HRWL is coming up due for renewal. I didn't know what I had to do for it so I contacted DEEWR (department of workplace employment and industrial relations) via phone to enquire about what I had to do to renew my HRWL. ie: sit a test, answer questions of competency etc. Nope - as stated before in this thread it's just another tax. They will notify me when the licence is due and I have to get another "passport" photo, fill out the forms and submit them through the post office. Utter BS in my book! It's not about safety - it's about coin for govco.

Ya lucky u don't have to resit the test. 24 that you can't get wrong. 42 that u need to get 38 right and 8 calculations of which u need all correct. 90 % pass mark required.

Also drive a 48 tonne but don't have a licence. We had someone come down and assess us for twenty mins.
