I thought it was 'high plateau or high plain'......and 'tit'.
I don't care what they want to call it. It'll always be Bathurst or Mt Panorama to me. Just like Uluru is still Ayers Rock and the 'Gully' is still Catalina Park.

Apparently "wahluu" means awakening of the mount in Aboriginal, although I am no expert. And yes, it is a nod to the Wiradjuri people.

Before that it was known as Bald Hill. (?) and was named Mt Panorama by a lady who won a competion to name it. Any historians here correct me if I'm wrong, but thats what I have heard as the story behind the name.

It was definitely Bald Hill, a dirt motorcycle track, after the Vale Circuit got too dodgy (with traffic still allowed to 'flow' during races - horse/carts, tractors, trucks) if you head out toward Trunkey, signs next to the Baffurst sale yards point out the start/finish line, so blatt along the straight, take the left turn marked "Lagoon" (which is where Hondo Grattan is buried) then the next left is a hard left (Devils Elbow) and you're away - it's dirt, and there's a blind crest with a sharp (still dirt) right hander just over the other side - that's living, especially on a road bike!

We disgress a bit, but it's easy to do one after the other, because coming back to the saleyards, you just stay on Lloyd's road and Voila! You're at the Mount.
