The name 'Monaro' was reportedly aboriginal for both 'Mountain' and 'Tit' - true story.
( i.e. Check out the Monaros on that!!!)

I don't care what they want to call it. It'll always be Bathurst or Mt Panorama to me. Just like Uluru is still Ayers Rock and the 'Gully' is still Catalina Park. |

Hope it doesn't become another Ayres Rock, where the traditional owners discourage anyone climbing it.

I am part of Wiradjuri mob, and although i respect its history prior to cars fanging around that mountain, it will always be Mount Panorama to me.

Reminds me of Crocodile Dundee 2 where his mate Wally says to the bad guys: "You know, some people say that he talks to the animals. The aborigines call him Jabba-Jahda-Ah-Der-Ahd, which means The Crocodile Who Walks Like a Man."

Apparently "wahluu" means awakening of the mount in Aboriginal, although I am no expert. And yes, it is a nod to the Wiradjuri people.
Before that it was known as Bald Hill. (?) and was named Mt Panorama by a lady who won a competion to name it. Any historians here correct me if I'm wrong, but thats what I have heard as the story behind the name. |

We disgress a bit, but it's easy to do one after the other, because coming back to the saleyards, you just stay on Lloyd's road and Voila! You're at the Mount.
