Diff choice for EH Holden...

One of my students has acquired an EH Holden and is in the process of restoring it. He has asked me what diff would be suitable for the 350 Chev he plans to put in it and mentioned that 9 inch diffs he had looked at were 2000 or more dollars. I told him that I wasn't sure that a 350 in an EH was legal for registration in Qld and that I had no idea about a cheaper diff option bar a salisbury diff from a V8 HK/T/G which may be getting hard to find. Are there any modern, cheaper alternatives I could suggest???

Maybe a Borg Warner 28 spline out of an R31 Skyline? It will be a still chop down/modify job though and still wont have much change from 2K though.

Diff out of a VN/VP era commodore is lighter, more efficient and will suit a mild 350 when compared to a 9". Search for BW 78 or BTR 78 for more info. Had one behind a 383 stroker did all right until the supercharger went on. BW 78 had a weldable pinion housing (steel)

R31 skyline all good too

10 bolt salsbury good for 400-450hp ?

as stated above regardless of all of this, the cost will be same for labour to get the track right to suit EH + whatever wheel combo is chosen.

I'd pay for the 9" - everyone does it for a reason -it's proven.

Do it once, do it right (also known as cheapest short term cost = most expensive long term cost)
