I know we're all Ford people here but looks like Toyota is wants to bring out some high-end models to keep the Hilux fresh. Maybe Ford should fast-track the Ranger Raptor sooner than first thought eh? |

Looks more like an FX4 rival. And no, wouldn't touch a Hilux. One of the worst riding vehicles I have ever been in. And they are so slow, even compared to it's rivals.

Wouldn't buy one, but I'm sure others will, especially the "rugged" pack.
As for the TuRD pack, it was a failure last time, and probably will be this time.

In any case I do like the Ranger but Amarok is what I'd go for if I were in the market. |

I could never understand why the TRD hilux only came in 4wd. A 2wd with decent suspension would have been 4 door competition to the xr6t/ss ute market with 4 doors. I get it that it was the only performance dual cab at the time, but now the market for a decent 2wd performance ute has just about dried up, however there is still demand for a ute that has a low enough centre of gravity to corner well.

Hilux - Ranger same thing. Uninspiring both of them.

I'm tipping Ford may have something "Special" coming up with Ranger in the next couple of years (going by reports in the media).

Some reports suggest the Ranger will be ditching the 3.2 diesel for the 3.0 V6 Lion engine, with the 10-speed. Now that would really be a Hilux killer (even though it already is).

V6 would be not bad. But far from anything special. V6 should be standard on higher spec Utes. 4 cylinders should be reserved for the base model work Utes.

I would think the 3.0 V6 10-speed would do 0-100 in around 7-8 seconds. What does the current 5 cyl do in in? 10?

No I think you and the "disk brake man" may be wrong ! I'm tipping a cool Ford brand may make its way Rangers way. That's what the media is saying anyway. |

Hopefully. I just don't have my hopes up because all the current utes are boring and with new cars in general getting more boring all the time, I just assume the Utes will continue the trend

http://teknikensvarld.se/toyota-corr...e-test-403423/ Regarding OP, I agree with Ben73 with it probably being a sticker pack. On another note, that Tonka concept is both goddamn UGLY and OTT-awesome at the same time. Kind of like the Homermobile. |

I don't think people understand the ute operators. Current crap available looks to suit one off mum dad owners. I have plenty of neighbours with TRD lux that got them cheap when the boom died.
I look after around 20 of a fleet of 100 ish that will last 5 years + or 120 000Km +. The small engine base model idea is B/S as they cant operate loaded. its like fitting an auto and wondering why it over heats. Often have to send 2 utes to do a job and cant tow a trailer. Fitting stickers and rear disc is like fitting carpet and Bluetooth-totally useless and maintanence issue. like to see better seats with trim that will last a work day. told recently that hilux was gone as they unable to meet min demands. Last week we received a 4X4 look 4X2 crew cab for a foreman that wont used much.as a loaded work vehicle.

Being a current previous model Hilux 4x4 owner I have no real favourite when upgrade comes up soon.
Ranger or Hilux will do. Its a daily and either will handle the light loads I put in the back - it does everything I need for family hols up the coast incl beach and light track driving. Its reliable as and would expect Ranger being the same. IDGAF that this does better than that from comments made by some. None of this BS is an issue driving around suburbia. Both vehicles are a good choice for what they are as they are. My money will go to the best deal at the time.

The only way the 4x2 Hi-Rider will fail on your foreman's worksite will be if it's in boggy conditions; they have a pegga diff. The Hiluxes (and pretty much all other dual cabs on the market) can take 1-ton-plus payloads and have a mountain of torque. The 3T-plus towing figures - whilst true - are unrealistic for "real world" driving but they can still tow a serious load with no dramas. |

Yeah tried that, manual says theres a couple of options, hold for five seconds or ten seconds. Neither seemed work, still did it, got the tractor instead.

We are in process of replacing 3 L hilux. half are load carriers.these have 2250 KG towing with brakes. Our over foremen could use small car ect, they once had and liked diahatsu handi van.
towing a dual axle trailer rated at 2 ton diff center last 60-80K. tray load is 3/4 ton most of our vehicles will exceed this weekly. The ex workshops ranger 3.2 4X4 was 2015 and would refuse to drive on cow tracks. dirt road was OK. My dad has a triton HI look 4X2 LSD and it has required being towed on wet grass due to derating engine .I not experienced this with the Dmax yet.
