ABC News (7pm bulletin) Sunday night(1st of Oct) is looking at the fallout of Ford shutting down one year ago, re:the impact on former employees lives & how the various regions are doing where Ford was manufacturing.Cheers

G'day , Thanks for the heads up .It will be interesting to see that report. Good or bad they might learn things for the Holden and Toyota shutdowns in the next month or two. Cheers Rod.

This will be very interesting.
Would love to know where/what all the workers have done that lived/worked around where the the factory is. I drive past the factory every now and then as I did my trade just down the road 20 years ago. |

Thought you would have used your “common sense” on this one. Can’t win them all I guess.Maybe I should have clarified for all the people who did not realise Ford don,t “manufacture” in this country any more.Cheers

Do know how many I have spoken that have said ford have gone broke or closed up. They made a decision for what was best for their business and so many people post the incorrect thing, you included.

I did say that I should have clarified it.But in saying that again commonsense should prevail,as it is an Australian Ford forum site.Really could not believe people would “believe” that Ford as a whole had shut down completely.Cheers

Correct. The engineering side has created even more jobs post shutdown.

Most people have no interest in cars other than for transport and it's easy to find people who believe Ford have shut down and Holden is doing the same thing. I don't hear anyone talking about Toyota at all as many think all their cars already come from overseas. . |

It amazes me that you'll find people arguing over what the OP meant when it is so obvious. Why are so many people so insecure that they jump on the first comment or mistake they see? Lets all try to be a little more forgiving and remember most people have good intentions and are on here for some info or to escape lifes doldrums, not to get into petty name calling and insults.

Has anybody been inside the factories recently? I suspect they have been gutted by now.

The plant Has not been cleaned out yet, and security is still pretty good on site. You can try though, I'll keep an eye on the Geelong Advertiser to see how you went. |

Sad to see our local car manufacturing close down. It had employee me for nearly 30 years in both component manufacturing and vehicle assembly. Our factory production lines were progressively disassembled and sold on Grays-online.
Interesting thing was when the machines were removed they left a visible footprint on the floor where they had been sitting like the chalk outline you see in detective movies where dead bodies had lay. The only positive thing is that a lot of our equipment has been sold to small local manufacturers in other industries who are able to upgrade or expand their plants. |

If I understand correctly it'll be a spare parts warehouse. About 1000 jobs there.

However, it will be almost fully automated. There are bigger and better things happening at the altona site too in the next two to three years. TMCA are in the process of reducing their workforce from 4500 to just over 1200 AU wide. Quote:
The Altona factory doesn't look/feel that modern, the back end systems are just as old but there is a lot of automation in there.
