Default Ugly Hayman Reece Towbar

Today i was getting fitted a hayman reece heavy duty box hitch to my AU falcon 1, so that i can tow my boat. I picked the thing up and had a look at it and it sticks a frigin mile out from the back of the car! it looks unbelievibly ugly. Dad has one on his BA and its nothing like that, basically flush with the rear bar. Same on all the commodores ive seen aswell. Can people please post up pics if they have a hayman reece box hitch on there AU so i can see!

The Commie fits I have seen, I reckon my dad's old trailer would rub the bumper bar

Thats how they are meant to look.
They are great for locating where your knees are if you ever forget while in the garage at night.

Its better then a goosneck, but not by much, ah well what can you do,I would not be all that impressed either, the whole point of it is to get it out of the way.

I would leave it on if i were you. I was considering removing my tow bar all together also. That was until last week when some fool in a commo decided my rear looked like a great place to park his car! If it wasn't for the tow bar, my car would have been ruined. Instead, it ripped his front end appart and went through his radiator! I got away with messed up paint and a dinted boot lid. That was as good a reason to keep it as any!

I would be ****ed off with that if I were you, and take it back. The whole idea of getting that type of towbar is so you don't have a great big ugly protuberance on the back of your car. you may as well have just got a standard one.

Plus the gooseneck bars are not the heavy duty items (1600kg max towing capacity) ... where the square hitch is the heavy duty item.

yeh i did take it back and thats how its suposed to be! even hayman reece said the same thing, its within reason. i could get a gooseneck im not towing anything over 1600kg but the reason i got that was so it was out of the way but it isnt really

I usually modify bars for people who don't need the full 2300kg or so. It involves a bit of cut and shut and some welding but as an example I can fit a BA ute 2300kg bar so it sits behind the bar totally. On FPV and Tickford utes the rear bumper attachment hides it when not in use.

Unfortunately most people will only pay around $80 worth of fitting so it's a case of drill, slap, bolt, punt out the door.

Also remember old farts like the bar sticking out cos the old knees and eyes don't work so well to get the hitch and pin in.... LOL

How much??? & how far out past the boot does it stick out??? Measured with boot lid shut of course, how far out from that? (I use this measurement as I have a TE50 rear bar on mine that sticks out further than the standard bar.) I need to know measurements as i would like to work out where it will end up sitting and how far out or in it sits from the bar.

Cheers

Col.
