Hey amigos,
I've noticed just recently that the EF is starting to idle a little rough. It almost feels it'll stall, but never does. She sits at the 600 rpm mark (if that's standard or not...) I'm wondering how i can go about tweaking something to get the idle much smoother? Cheers, Matt

Clean the idle speed controller....
That might spruce up yer idle problem ! |

Aright, where abouts is the Idle Speed Controller located?

Im still not sure where the Idle speed controller is? The Max ellery's manual isnt much help for this (p123).
Any details on surrounding parts to help me find it? A picture would help heaps. Its a 6cyl. This problem I found started ever since I filled up with the new "Unleaded 95" unleaded fuel at Shell. It obviously doesnt like the higher octane level, and needs to be tuned to suit it. Cheers, Matt

mine idles a little rough, and i run mine on 98 octane when i can get it, and there does not seem to be much differrence in the idle between normal unleaded and the 98 stuff, get better fuel economy though.

No, you remove the whole unit. There are 2 10mm Sockets on either side. Undo them and when taking it off, be careful not to damage the Gasket. You will need to re-use it when you put it back on. When its off, just fill the guts of it with turps or t/b cleaner and shake outa it. Do this a few times

Oh yeah, disconnect the electrical connector to so you can take it away from engine bay. Makes it easier

Well that was easy to do, took hardly any time at all.
I'm yet to take it for a good run, but just starting her up, and sitting in her I noticed improvement. Im curious to what that black cap end does though, must alter something? Anyways I think she's purring a lot more smoothly now, thanks for the help champs!

if its idling at 600 rpm turn the idle speed screw the falt blade screw in the pic u posted under the black knob clockwise about 1/8th to 1/4 of a turn itl increase the base idle

Could be idling low because of the dirty ISC, you should clean the ISC before you go playing with base idle.

Well giving the ISC a clean and tweaking the base idle screw to run a little higher, made small improvements, but my acceleration feels like its dying on me...like there's not enough fuel shooting into the chamber or something.
And braking quickly doesnt help either. It's a strange one used: : maybe ive had a bad batch of fuel???

I actually thought Shell had changed ALL their normal Unleaded fuel to 'Unleaded 95' but i was wrong. So I've still been filling up with the norm. My boo-boo.
But I filled her up last night with with higher octane Un 95 and my idling seems to have improved quite a bit. And my dying acceleration has gone away. The higher octane level has helped heaps! ...but i still feel a small undercurrent of roughness lurking... Thankyou, more expensive fuel people yay :

sounds good matt. i sorta got the same issue as you without the dying accelaration so i'll have to give that a go.
