Quick question, can I take the diff (3:23lsd) from my NA (diff was from a DA LTD) and fit it to my EL? If so, what is involved? I assume the diff itself will bolt up, but what about the brakes? Can I just bolt the EL disks etc to the NA diff?

i'm pretty certain you can put a da diff into an el as rob put a nc one into his eb(and i think that it'd workn the same for an el), but about installations i have no idea will have to learn eventually though as i only have a 3.27ss:(

My main concern is the handbrake setup, so im wonering if the el one can be put onto the ea type diff? Ive had a look, and the el diff has a few mounts welded onto the diff housing. If I cut these mounts off and had them re-welded onto the ea diff (from the el), would this work? Do the calipers and disks themselves fit the diff?

If you want to install it disc to disc u have 4 main problems.
(1) Lower trailing arm flanges on the DA diff are too small (2) DA diff runs a uni style conection to the tailshaft, the EL uses a flange (3) EL runs ABS specific disc's and axles (4) DA diff is only 25spline 2 pin iirc, so its a backwards step as your EL will be running 28spline diff standard.

Cool.
1. I have the trailing arms from the NA, so can they be used? 2. Diff is flange style already 3. EL is non abs, and I was hoping to be able to use the disks and calipers from the EL on the diff 4. Not concerned about splines atm, as the diff coped with the 130 odd rwkw from the fairlane no probs, plus, I know its in really good condition. ......... so apart from the above, will it fit lol? |

I believe you can put EA-ED calipers and handbrake set up onto an EF/EL diff but not the other way round.

You cannot use the EA style Trailing arms to my knowledge without fitting EB/ED or EF/EL bushes to the trailing arms on the diff side. im doing the same thing in regards to fitting robs EB diff to my EA

i put an ea diff into my eb, the lower trailing arms are smaller on the ea's. i used the eb trailing arms and bent the brackets out on the diff with a hammer, neatly ovcoarse, and pulled them into shape with the bolt(as long as u dont mangle them, they'll be ok)
seems to work fine, no dramas The uni style conection can be can be swaped by undoing the big nut in the middle. Which is what they've probly already done, the flange is much stronger. nick Last edited by EF302; 01-02-2005 at 08:11 PM. |

Flanges, trailing arms, etc. are all easily fixed, but the EL brakes won't mount to an NA diff. You *may* be able to use your NA brakes on the rear, as long as the lines and handbrake can all be adapted. |

Cheers for that guys, Ive pretty much tossed the idea of the swap out the window. Now for my next question. I might be able to get my hands on an lsd center and 3:45 gears from an EB XR6. Would the center have the right splines, and be a straight swap, or again, would I need the shafts to suit?

it should be a swap
the EB XR6 diff was 28 spline so you're ok there.
