I think ive decided on my trifecta but depends on wether they run a certain someone who may or may not have won the cup on previous occasions....

Back the ones that are ready to go to the glue factory. That's what always happens to the ones I pick. They start well and then just fade.

I reckon regardless of Makybe Diva running or not, that the Hawkes horse, Railings will back up his Caulfield Cup win with the Melb Cup

I have no idea. I only ever put a small bet on the horses, and it's only ever the Melbourne Cup. I tend to go for cool names and Leica Falcon will have alot of Ford fans putting money on him/her.

I wanted Plastered, because that is the ultimate Party Animal nickname lol. But he/she's been scratched. Lester Thunderwing, wtf is that supposed to mean?!?! I like it.

I was gonna ask who's running, but since I have the net at my very fingertips, I went looking myself!

Here's the list, for those interested:
1 Makybe Diva
2 Leica Falcon
3 Railings
4 Eye Popper
5 Vinnie Roe
6 Demerger
7 Mr. Celebrity
8 Dizelle
9 Xcellent
10 Distinction
11 Plastered #(Scratched)
12 Carte Diamond *(injured)
13 Portland Singa
14 Confectioner
15 Vouvray
16 Greys Inn
17 Hugs Dancer
18 Franklins Gardens
19 Lachlan River
20 Bazelle
21 On A Jeune
22 Kindjhal
23 Sir Dex
24 Umbula
25 Hollow Bullet
26 Rizon
27 Irish Darling
28 Kamsky
29 Don Raphael
30 Envoy
31 Sarrera
32 Command 'N Conquer
33 Swift Tango
34 Strasbourg
35 Zacielo
36 Special Scene
37 Lester Thunderwing

I think Makybe Diva will pull it off again. If you watched the last race she won she didnt even kick into second gear. She breezed through it and now that she has been confirmed she will do it again. Problem is she is the fav and it wont really be worth the gamble because if she wins you wont even double you money.

Just dont go to TAB and get in while the stacks are high.

Thanks for posting the list up!

Your better option is to try and get fixed odds of $1.20 - $1.30 + if you can for the place.

No such thing as a sure thing but if it comes home you will show a 20% or better return on your money which is better than the banks, and if you could get 20% return everyday day on your money, another story.

Pete

As much of a fairytail it'd be... I cannot see Makybe winning... There are 3 things against her
1/. Weight (for a mare) 2/. Lack of prep for 2 mile (all her prep was based on 2000m Cox) and 3/. HISTORY! No horse has won 3! Gezzzz, I'd love to be wrong though!
You know, some are already comparing her to Pharlap?.. Look up your Millers guides and what Pharlap did in her spring of 1930!!.. And Pharlap carried 62.5 kg to win ... then "murdered" with 68kgs in 1931 to run 8th... You put 62kgs on ANY of our later day "superhorses" in the cup & see how they go!

I'll save my money for my next car. I REALLY suck at gambling and it is especially weird considering I got an "A" grade in a tertiary maths unit called "Probability/Chance" lol.

Good luck to you all though.

I had backed strasbourg the last five starts and had lost, I ignored it today but did get rockford bay up in the last and also won on Benicio in the derby, all in all I had a great day and also won my bid on a te50 bumper on ebay woohoo.

I think Vinnie Roe will take out our cup this year, but I was seriously impressed with two other runners strasbourg and bush honey. Its going to be a very tough race to pick. I for won hope Makybe wins but as Charlie said its going to be damn hard.

Pray for rain!... Unless it rains (or the sprinklers are "accidently" left on) neither Maykbe Diva, or Vinnie Roe will run on Tuesday, which would be a tragedy

Thats always a pretty good bet Doc. Pick your best 5 horses and if 3 come through I see that as a better chance than a straight trifecta. Last week at the Cox that was the plan, but the TAB lines were too long and most bookies only took each way bets!

Gidday Doc. ... Tell me, if you have a box 4, 5 etc And one of your horses is late scratching, is that trifecta still "live"?... Or do you get a refund?... Just seems if the later, you'd be screamin if 3 of the ones still left come in. Now if they didn't, couldn't you argue that the scratching stuffed your chances & demand a refund?
Regards Charlie
