Dyno maths??

Kilowatts = (Torque * RPM) / 9549

What is N on a dyno sheet? How does it eqaute to nm? I have heard that n /10 will give torque figure is that correct?

I don't think the maths is right but yes you can calc torque from Kw and rpm.

Tractive effort newtons on a dyno isn't the same as NM

N stands for Newtons, (Nm) Newton metres is Torque by measuring force (effort involved) multiplied by distance measured in metres. As jonbays said Tractive effort Newtons isn't the same as Nm.

Newtons is named after Sir Isacc Newton. The guy who discovered that force does not "run out" but is oppposed by a reactive force dissapating the energy of the object. For every action there is an opposite and equal reaction. Sorry for the history leason but I am very keen on Physics

N are units of force = Mass X Acceleration
NM are units of torque = Force X distance (where "distance" is the distance between where the force is applied and the pivot point)

So Nm will only be N / 10 when the distance between the pivot point and where the force is measured is 10 meters.

OK so I can calc it out from the rear wheel kw like this.

HP X 525/RPM= torque in foot pounds so

RWKW / .745 X 5252 / RPM = ftlbs X 1.356 for NM
