Default Christmas in Melb

Is there anyone in Melb, preferably with kids, who can give me an idea where to take our GDFH (Grandaughter From Hell) to see some Chrissy lights/decorations in Melb.

Preferably close to the city as we're staying in an old railway building in Spencer St and dont want to go driving all over the metro area

We're coming down for 2 nights in the first week of Dec for the company Christmas party and doing the usual Myers/David Jones Santa thing. Seeing as she's 8, next year she will probably be too grown up to believe in Santa

Myers window display in the city is the Mecca of Xmas lights in Melbourne. Its a tradition that they do something amazing every year.

Myer christmas windows, just head down Bourke St.

thousands of Melbournians from distant suburbs only come out once a year at chrismas just to see the Myer windows in their PJ's. :evil_laug

me and my mates go to a couple of places where there are a couple of streets just filled with houses where people have done some awsome decorations and vasious other things. I remeber the one house where santa and his sleigh would go all the way around the house. I'll find out exactly where abouts they are. i'm pretty sure one is near heidleberg somewhere and there was another one. I'll suss it out and lets you know.

But as you said you don't want to drive (Well i just re-read it an noticed). Also it may be a bit early. Quite a shame because youngens will love this. But anyone else who wants to go, qiute worthy.

Bill.

Surely the casino should have some type of worthwhile display? After 8pm, they put on the big gas fires outside. That's pretty spectacular.

It's only about 10-15 mins drive from the city along the eastern (get off at the Burke Rd exit). However its always packed with people and chockers with cars etc, so its best to park in a side street somewhere and walk in...

Typical 4cyl driver thinking, only got half the power!

Transport Company party, NOT Myer's!

Tradition dictates children should be locked in cars in the underground carpark whilst playing the tables.

Nope, cant do that. This girl knows how start and drive the car. She just has trouble reaching the pedals and seeing out of the windscreen at the same time.

Well, with the cat that wouldn't be a problem but the dog is needed for security

Thats the place. Stole the words right outta my mouth. I plan on going down their again this year. I also believe it's better when you walk it. You can actually take your time and admire the work and effort people put into the decorations. There is also another place, i'm pretty sure just past greensborough. I'll find out at the end of next week. I haven't seen my best mate in 2 weeks because of exams . When i see him next week on Friday, he will fill me on places which are worthy of going to. I'll then post it so other ff people are able to attend if they wish.

Bill.

Hey John, we were getting the feeling that my street is going to be one of these streets, like the one in Ivanhoe. Already there's a house with last years display still up around the corner in Gorge Rd

For those in Sydney a list of streets normally with a great display:

Emu Plains(not sure where)
St Clair(not sure where)
Glen Alpine(Ambarvale side)
Kearns (Mackenzie Pl)
Ingleburn (around Lancia and Lagonda Drive areas)
Lugarno (Maple St)

Theres also a house, if i remember correctly, on Spoonville Ave Woronora Heights that have a "santas toy workshop display" lit in the front room of their house, as well as the outside display.

Take her to all the nice places and then take her to the Old Melbourne Jail and tell her if she doesn't pull her head in, that's where she'll end up.
