Default Does anyone drink Yakult?

Hi everyone,

A lady gave me a sample of Yakult in the supermarket the other day and it was the first time I'd ever had it. It didn't taste too bad but isn't something I'd drink all the time.

Anyway, reading through the brochure she gave me, it recommends to drink one of the tiny 65ml bottles a day to "clean out your insides" so I bought a pack of five and have had three so far.

Does anyone else drink it and if so, have you noticed any positive effect?

Andrew.

Triumph of marketing, I think. I enjoy yoghurt, though.

There is merit behind the bacteria and cultures contained in yakult... but nothing which cant be derived from yoghurt...

I dunno... ive tried the samples but never bought the stuff and insides seem to be alright. See my signature.

Yeah, I've always had my doubts about it. I'm sure there are many alternative products out there that just aren't marketed so strongly. I guess nothing can beat a healthy diet and lots of exercise though!

I remember when it first came out and they were giving away free samples. Me and my brothers would go up and have 6 during the time we were in the shopping centre. From what I remember of the taste, it wasn't the most pleasant thing to drink.

Small note - don't ever drink 6 in the space of 30 minutes.

If you actualy liked the tast of yuckult, try a Turkish yogurt drink called "ayran". Very strong sour yougurt drink that will kick start anyones day. I cant live without it. You may find it in some turkish kebab stores. Small white bottle (like a pop top oj bottle) with a blue lable. Good stuff.

Yogurt is good for the stomach, like with any healthy food.

Ah yes, Ayran. Love the stuff. I used to drink a bottle every day during my lunch break at work. Once, they were out of the 250 mL bottles so I bought a one litre bottle and skulled it down. Didn't feel too good afterwards though. :

I used to buy it, but just sort of stopped after a while, it aint that cheap.
I love the taste of it though!

I just pop a multi vitamin every day, that definately seems to make a difference!

I love the stuff, i have a little bottle of it nearly every day.
You can buy the Woolworths/Coles brand much cheaper, it is probably made in the same factory.

I heard somewhere that it MIGHT help in protecting you from bowel cancer too

The latest I have read is that it is most probably all killed by your stomach acid, but it IS highly concentrated, so some will theoretically get through. The capsules are definately a high enough concentration to get through, and are awesome after a round of antibiotics to re-establish these good bacteria in your gut. For anyone that gets bloating or a lot of gas, IBS etc I would highly recommend at least trying! I do one each day, and it definately helps if you have a sore throat. Does it really do anything apart from pinch $4.00 a week off me....who knows...but it definately kicks youghurts butt, unless you eat a few KG's a day.

I have a yakult a day, I get upset stomach easily and have had gastro 3 times in 6 months but since taking them i found my stomach is so much more settled. If i dont have a yakult i take a tablet once a day that has the same stuff as the yakult in it. I dont mind the taste but it could be better but I'd rather that than another week off work with excrutiating cramps and the s!

The cheap brand is biosos i'm pretty sure

I prefer "inner health". take 1 every second day for 2 weeks, you'll feel like a new person.

Re stomach acid - Yakults 'Shirota' strain in more resistant against stomach acids, and will get through in greater effect.

Not a bad product all in all for the purposes, and perhaps worth paying a little more than similar products.

I think the major benefit of Yakult is the specific strain of bacterium it contains. They are supposedly able to resist the journey through the stomach into the small intestine and achieve a balance of good / bad bacteria in there as well.

I drink it whenevr the wife buys it from time to time.............can't say it has any real noticeable effect................probably more psychosomatic I suspect.

Champ ..I promise you that coke cleans your insides just as well.At that strength it probably kills off many bad bacteria...but while its on a roll kill good ones all the same...bacteria is just bacteria.... :

Also coke cleans my barbecue very well and I wonder if yakult can do the same.?

Hmmmmm. I wonder what the 7 spoons of suger in each can of coke does to the stomach too. I used to clean bars and coffee shop machines with it too.

And Yakult does not increase the acid in the stomach like coke can. It can be a killer to someone suffering IBS and stomach ulchers.

I think Yakult is like Optimax. Some swear by it, others reckon it's worse, I think it's beneficial in some people but not necessarily if you're already healthy.
