Does anyone know of any common problems with EF's or any other E-series that would cause the following?:
1.Really lumpy idle 2.huge amounts of fuel bein used (Trip comp. readout is almost 30L/100km) 3.Stalls when put in D unless it has a few revs on board 4.Heaps and i mean heaps of black fuel smoke when reved and a little at idle It sounds as if its floading its self half the time. hopefully can have this fixed so i can use it and come to the cruise in melb this sat night. thanks guys.................... |

check for vacuum leaks.
especially around the map sensor. sounds like the map sensor is getting the wrong vac readings.

Yeah, it could be the above...
Or your gf may have tried to suprise you with a really big cam shaft :P, installed by her and her nail painting abilities - of course! In all serious, I think it's the map sensor

Where is the map sensor located on EF's? sounds like a dumb question but this will be the first time ive really had a good look under the hood of an EF. If i can get it running will be my new daily driver.

hanv't had a chance to check it out yet, but a friend of my dads (also a ford employee) said that in low km cars carbon build up and blockage on the injectors could cause the same problems? he said that the ecu etc was then compensating for a lack of flow and sending more fuel. anyone heard of this?
any more ideas would be great as a proper ford dealer wants to charge me $95 and hour just to do hook up for a diagnostic!!! |

map sensor on EF's is located on the firewall.
its pretty much at the back of the manifold, it has a vac line going to it (from the manifold) and some wiring. injectors can cause similar issues, my car runs on LPG 99% of the time and thus my injectors are absolutely stuffed. the car barely runs on petrol because the injectors are so badly blocked. mine are so blocked i could damage the engine if i ran on petrol too much. the red section on the pic is the MAP sensor.
