The Premo headunit come with the the CD Stacker as well & it's good cause i need the Cassate player which is has too! I think the speaker size is 5 X 7 but im not sure..... Not sure if it changes the sound but will be a very worthwhile upgrade. At least it wont stuff up like the in dash ones. Lets just say its alot better then what you would have in there now. Id buy it while you can as its hard to pickup premium sound units the wreckers would charge you a fortune.

Not really.
Best upgrade you can do simon, is upgrade your system to something totally aftermarket. Better Sound and functions.

Yes Au's have 5 x 7s in the doors and parcel shelf.Make shure you get some torx bits (the socket style) to get the anti theft type torx screws off.
Id have to agree that an aftermarket unit would be the go and they are as cheap as chips these days. I changed my speakers to JBL's(rear) were great,a little dear compared to the kenwoods in the front but i have to say the kenwoods do a great job for the price aswell. Upgraded speakers even make the factory head sound ALOT better. |

Im a little disappointed with the premuim sound in the ts, in my mind not really a major step up from the prestige sound in the te. If the 6cd changer dies i will go aftermarket.

Looks like about everyone agrees that aftermarket is the way. More functions, better sound, more upgradability and inter-operability.

The standard head unit is crap!
the rest of the gear will sound ALOT better running off a better deck.. I say buy it all and put in a decent head unit.. or like it was suggested go all after market.. there are many different brands of speakers that will fit into the standard locations.. and they can be had for a reasonable price. |

The only downside to aftermarket is you can't use the volume controls on your steering wheels on most of them.

I'd be just buying the Premo sound headunit! He wants roughly around $150-$200 for it!
What do people think? Cheers Simon |

just buying the premo head unit is not worth it.
that being said, i am quite impressed with the premo sound in my mums and dads cars... for what it is, it sounds pretty darn good.

I would always go aftermarket - but it really depends on what your idea of a good sound system is.

imo their not worth 150 bucks and there's a very good chance it will lunch itself sometime soon. Go aftermarket, mine was replaced a few weeks ago and its already showed some signs of jamming again.

Ok the thing is the Premo sound is what im after because of these factors....
1) It has a cassate player (Which i need for the I-POD) 2) It will still work with the steering controls, with out getting that converter 3) It will still be the same colour as the inside of the car etc..... Cheers Simon :nutsycuck What would you pay for Series 1 Premo Sound with a CD stacker that goes in the boot? What's the highest you'd pay? |

Not sure if the premium player will do much better. Go for aftermarket. Seen many people go for audio upgrades, and never seen anyone go for a better factory version. I have a JVC head unit (Fairmont one originally), and had a loss of bass. However, the sound is much clearer now, no embarrasing distortion.
Don't buy massive speakers, ie 10 inch or anything like that, as they wont fit in place of ur old ones. Thats the situation I am in now... New project for holidays... a new rear rack to fit 10 inch speakers... lol |

My premo series 1 isnt too bad. The only upgrade needed was to put a slightly bigger subby in to ease the bass on the rear speakers which the std amp can handle well. It aint no show stopper but i've never been a big boot rattling muzza.

simon, i say dont even bother thinking about the premo sound system... its not much better than stock, your better off going nuts at JB or something and getting a decent setup like my AU has.
2X12 pioneer subs 1X JL Amp- for subs. JL front and rear speakers - they should know the size etc there think they are 5X7 off the top of my head for front and rear? but i put 6X9's in the parcel shelf. get your self a good head unit too. |

Head unit will make the speakers sound better, more power to them, better channeling.
However, the only way to have much improved sound is to replace the speakers also. If I were in your position, id save up and get the whole smash at once, H/U and speakers. Get better discounting on larger purchases with companies, or reduced shipping if on ebay.

The factory premium sound unit is just OK but only with better speakers.
Not worth upgrading to really. |

Go on ebay, and search it.
I believe retails very over priced, and id never buy head units from them. Speaker's on the other hand, i wouldnt buy from ebay unless i heard and seen them before i handed over the cash. IMO
