Not much help for you sorry mate but a friend of mine joined the force last year and is now 'on the beat'.

Fitness test disnt sound too taxing - but someone on the phone should be able to tell you what's expected. But a lot of theory and a LOT of exams he was taking in the last few months of the academy.

Oh... and good luck!

You going to move over to the mainland?

get some practice having a panel interview (where theres more than 1 person interviewing you).
my last 2 jobs, i had 3 people interviewing me. 1 person is bad enough but 3 is just nerve racking......especially when 1 of them sits BEHIND you so you cant see them.
other than that, know your good points, your bad points, WHY you want to join the Force, what you can contribute etc.
think up some situations that might arise on the job as im sure youll be asked "what would you do in this situation", "how would you deal with this" and that type of thing.

and remember, the answer to "why do you want to be a Police Officer" ISNT "to have a hand gun and drive really fast".

good luck with the job!

I considered this a few years ago, and the Police Academy in Brisbane actually held a open day where you can go in and go on tours and ask all these questions and speak to the cadets.

My thought is

Find out if they do this at your local academy?

A good friend of mine tried three times but kept failing the panel interview as above, he said after the first one he knew what to expect but they still broke him. He was determined to get in but in the end he gave up. Now back working as a contract firefighter for our local RAAF

I applied for Vic police a couple of years ago. Just don't mention Blue Heelers (my tragic mistake, no sense of humour). Also their fitness test was a breeze as long as you're moderately fit. And no I'm not a cop.

Refuse to tell them your name, and just keep asking "when do we get our guns".

Heh, think 3 is bad? I had one this morning with 7! I wanted to run back down the stairs when I got told there was that many.

Practice is good, but they can see if you are talking most of the time. Don't be scared about being nervous either. They will expect that, especially when it's a panel interview.

Bah poofs. Whats wrong with sitting infront of a panel of 8 when you go for an interview? If thats what you want to do, you wont run of answers or good things to say to convince them. Good luck.

first of all good luck with your interview

im sure the police recruitment department in your state will have all the exact details for the fitness test required

i remeber 50m swim in 90 sec test with clothes

you have to be reasonably fit

take it as it comes step by step

Relax, Be yourself, Think Positively & Good Luck with the whole process

Enjoy!

pm me for further details

The beep test in NSW is from 6.1 to 10.1. You are then given a number of points relative to your beep test result. These points are then pooled into the rest of your other test scores to give an overall score.

Mate, go for it, set your goals and be the best you can be.
I thought about it a few years back, and sometimes think I should have.
Its a thankless job at times, but i'm sure it would be great.
All jobs have thier crapiola times anyway.
Just don't let the power go to your head, have a few mates whom that has happened to unfortunately, but a few who are some of the finest people around.

Good luck.

Mick.

Whilst we're on this subject...

Can anyone tell me how long you have to be in the force before you can become a mounted cop? I've got a friend who's main interest in life is horses, but stable jobs etc pay absolute cr*p and was interested in becoming one. Dad (a firey) told me that you had to work a certain amount of time on your legs (he couldn't remember how long) before you could move up?

Cheers.
