Analog to Digital

Hi all , I have some old records ( yeah yeah i know i'm an old fart )that i want to copy onto CD's . Does anyone know of a good program i could buy that will convert analog to digital, At the moment i am using "PLUS digital media edition " but it's not too good , Thanks Guys

If they are really old records you might be better off ordering them on CD from the local JB HI FI or something mate, should be fairly cheap and work out less hassle in the long run?

I wish I had more music on vinyl, I knew a girl that had all the Tool albums of the time on vinyl and it just sounded unreal.

Thanks Alpineau will give it a go . Twisted , I have tried to order them in on CD but i have a lot from the 60's and 70's and they are not released on CD,
p.s My son plays in a band, mainly "death metal" ( God love us ) and he likes to play them now and again and he thinks they are " sick" Don't know if that is good or bad lol

There's a nifty little audio editer called "Goldwave" kicking around on the internet.

Basically record it as a wave file, then manipulate it (noise reduction, equalise, normalise etc etc) and then save as the format you want (eg MP3).

Cool little program.

In the context, the fact that he LIKES to play them and says they are "sick" is a positive thing.

I just bought a turntable, has a pre amp built in. These things are expensive now and are making a come back, apparently. We have heaps of vinyl that we cant find on CD.

I bought a Optimus turn table with a built in pre amp , which in turn is connected to a 2 channel amp (100 watts per channel ) ,then into the computers 5.1 sound card . Sounds pretty good .

why would you when records are coming back!

audacity is one of the best around

otherwise come to the good guys we got a record player that plays and copies to CD give ya good price

I have a tonne of vinyls for hardcore/gabber (its really fast & evil electronic music). I have my decks (Technics 1200 & an American Audio ??) connected up to my mini system + mixer then wire that up to the soundcard in the PC. I then mix live and record it via Cool Edit Pro 2. You can prob find this on a p2p file sharing program.

Otherwise, I'd suggest one of those new turntables you can buy from Tandy ($99 i think) which have a built in amp and connect up to ur soundcard. I'm guessing they have the software already for it.

What records do you have ?

We went through our vinyls all 3,400 of them. All date from 1969 through to 1983. I am in the process of doing the same. I know i have a task in front of me, but hay it's all for a good course. My 16 year old daughter loves the stuff.
