Default lows or super lows? -Dobinsons

Hi guys, its great to see such a dedication to the au!!! good stuff...

im not sure if i should put lows or super lows in an au ghia. not sure if it has the tickford suspension as standard(any ideas?). i want to lower it a bit, not too much. i want to put dobinsons in it. after some enquriries they do not make the comfort range for the au and do not have any future plans on doing so. anyone got these in their au? could you PLEASE shed some light on the ride quality of them? im finding it real hard to get info so please anything would be great. i really dont want to lose the ride quality i have now. i have s/low kings in my ef and the ride qualtiy is shocking. im swerving towards super lows for the au as the lows really dont look much lower than what it is now.

cheers.

Yeah dont bother with lows - go superlows, you wont regret it. Just save some more money and get your shocks and struts changed at the same time to suit a lowered vehicle. Atleast go Munroe sensatracs (700ish installed), pedders sports ryders (1000ish installed), then theres konis etc for more dosh.

Ive got superlows (sl) in the front of my AU and ultras (ssl) in the rear, and the ride quality is disgraceful - but thats because my stock shockies are f~cked. munroe sensatracs coming up in the next few weeks for me. Also i have no knowledge about dobinson springs.
good luck.

i have heard alot of positive comments on the ride qualtiy of the dobinsons, i have had kings in my last 3 cars, do be honest i didnt change the shocks in any (2 falcons and a mazda) and the right quality was really bad, got a made with sl kings with konis, ride quality is better... a few fellas have kept there stock shocks running dobinsons and have said that the ride quality is as good as standard. im getting gas next week so depending on how much lower the rear sits i might just do the front... im so undecided! lol...

oh, where the hell can u get kings for less than 80 a set?? cheapest i ever got them was 90 trade, then 120 normal... let us know!!!

thanks for the comments...

I have King SSL's all round in my au2xr8 and they aren't a harsh ride at all, they are actually too soft! i was epecting a much firmer ride, my standard ticfords were stiffer

Don't put the Sensatracs in with superlows - they don't make them to suit anything lower than standard XR height, so if you install them with superlows you'll miss out on the dual rate damping that you're paying extra for - plus they'll go straight onto the rock-hard rate.

I ditched my superlows and went back up to lows. My supplier actually rang Munro to order the Senatracs, but was told that that even putting the Sensatracs on lows wasn't a great idea. I wound up just putting putting regular GT Gas Reflex in.

Look at this thread for more info:

I can only relay 3rd party opinions, but the guy who did the suspension in my previous Falcon (based in blacktown, NSW), who was always very honest with me, suggested the Dobinsons were a superior spring to the Kings. No manufacturer bias, at the time he sold any brand, depending on application, budget, etc of the purchaser (I had a KYB/Lovell setup done, for budget reasons...)

I have had good experiences with Lovell springs in the past. How have you found them?

I thought they were good, certainly wasn't unhappy with them. However, that was my first upgraded suspension setup in a Falcon, so other than the shagged suspension it replaced, I didn't have a lot to compare it with at the time.
