Default Fuel Consumption EF!

hey again guys

as many of you may know i bought a EF manual with 110,000kms about 2 weeks ago and since then welded the pedal box and put a stereo in..

next problem is my fuel consumption and idleing.... :evil3:

my car always seems to be running on 5 cylinders when idling.. it seems to be ok when driving but when u stop moving it will continue on 6 cylinders for about 5 secs then drop it down to 5... :( any ideas?

also another thing is my fuel consumption.. when i bought it it had about 1/4 in it and until i filled it up i avgered 12-13 on the trip computer. after filling it up i reset the trip computer.

since then it has been sitting around 20.. ive done about 200kms and im now down to 1/4 tank.. WTF?!?

any ideas guys it would be appreciated..

i hope this problem isnt going to be costly :(

cheers

how hard do you put your foot down is the first question but you may have a head gasket problem, look at your oil and see if its milky,

Had the same problem in my EL, was sitting around the 18-20ltr/100k mark, i changed the following.....

1. spark plugs and leads
2. o2 sensor
3. Temp sensor

Also did a head gasket shortly after, which may have caused a high than normal fuel eco....

Hope that helps :-)

i reckon its your oxygen sensor for your bad fuel economy.

i reckon your idle issue would be dirty idle control valve.
In commos it can carbon up and block air getting through causing rough idle.
If your moving, there is a speed sensor that tells the car to idle higher ( i think it allows easier gear changes) and the idle valve is open more. When you stop, the idle drops becaus ethe idle valve closers slightly.
Give it a clean and see.
As i said, it works usually for commodores, i assume ford have the similar set up.

Economy issue. Try the stuff as mentioned in previuos posts.
