Got a really good view of it on Thursday here, the pollution from Sydney was getting blown down south, leaving the CC with a good view of it.

The only cloud in the sky obscured it yesterday for me, so that killed some of the fun

McNaughts comet. It was at its most intense last weekend. Western skies. Brighter than Halleys. Just for scale, the tail varies, but can be as long as 3,000,000 km long. No typos.

Still around till roughly 12th February, but dimming from now on. It just swung past the sun, which is why it was so bright.

It was discovered by an Aussie too, that would be McNaught.

Has anyone in Vic managed to see it, or have any idea where one should be looking?

Theoretically the further south you are the better now, as it will be higher in the sky. You should see it to the SSW sky, if its clear...lol, Melbourne. It should be about 10 degrees to the left of where the sun sets.

It was actually visible on the 13th in broad daylight. As it loses brightness, obviously its better to see it later. We are passed the optimum time now, so after dark it should still be visible with the naked eye, or better with binoculars or decent zoom camera.

Seen it tonight and last night here in tassie.
I'd forgotten about it last night till I was driving home frm work at 10pm and mistook it for a chopper with a search light lol.

Pretty bright in the sky here, tried to grab a photo tonight but the street lights were throwin out the light balance on my camera. Going to do a run out the highway (pitch black) tomorrow night and try again.

Saw it near the horizon, mum was excited and decided to drag me out to see it. Not sure if it's the same one but it had a greeny hue to it, the street lights and lights from the Monash Fwy made it harder to see.

I was flying from Sydney to Perth the other night and as we were over the Australian Bite, they paused all the in flight entertainment and told us to look out to the left and see McNaughts Comet.

It Looks spectacular when you're 10,000M up in the sky in the pitch black

I had a window seat and couldnt take my eyes off it for an hour...something kind of eery about seeing something like that in the sky
