What are things you have to do when you move out?

Hello boyz,

I have got a question today,

When you move outta your folks place what are the things you have to be responsible for?

I know there is:
Rent
Electricity, Gas, and Water bills
Mortgage (whatever that is)
Buying furniture and stuff

But what else is there?

The constant food bills as well. They aren't cheap.

ALSO, if you are renting, be aware of your rights as a renter. Landlords have certain responsibilities to uphold towards you. And you also have certain responsibilities as a tenant. So I would look into that (if you are renting).

cooking ya own dinner , washing up , cleaning .. etc etc ..lol , all the things you take for granted when living with the oldies ! .

I left home when i was 17, If i could do it all again i'de be living with the oldies until they kicked me out .lol

I moved out two years ago. It wasn't as big of a shock as many people said it would be. I found it pretty easy but you have to get your finances in check first. Make sure you have some money saved up for those unexpected costs.

One thing I recommend is to set a budget up. Make sure that your spendings are less than your earnings. In terms of looking after bills and such... These are the ones that I pay.

- Rent
- Phone
- Internet
- Electricity
- Food
- Insurance

The only things I have to really do around it house is clean the bathroom, vaccume, wipe down the kitchen and such. Take out the trash... laundry. That kinda stuff.

Guess the big one is the initial bond when you move into a place, 4 weeks rent.

Living at home is a good opportunity to save a deposit so you can get your own place and also accumulate a bit of furniture so you have something to put into a house when you do move out.

When you move out, look under your old bed for all the funky things you've hidden from your parents over the years too...many interesting things...

Bed sheets, plates, dishes, blah blah blah. The million things you dont think of, which will blow your budget and stopped me from moving out.

About apartments and such,
If you buy an apartment, is that like buying a house?
Meaning you can do whatever the crap you want with it,
Like it i want to replace the toilet, take out a wall, or even redesign the whole damn thing could i?

what you can do will depend on the strata agreement which is a document that sets out what owners of an apartment can or can't do - some even down to whether you can have pets, and what sort....

It's there to make sure that the bloke on the top floor doesn't have a great big dog that barks all night and cra.ps on the stairs.......... or paint the outside flourescent lime green

Each apartment block, or set of units, may have different rules and regulations

it's not just food, it is cleaning stuff, toilet paper, tissues, etc. around here we average 1 toilet roll per person per week. a fact I never thought I would need to know! also things like an iron, clothes pegs (they live on washing lines), broom/mop/bucket. don't forget if it is phone it may also be mobile phone, and if you ever want to communicate with us again it will be internet service provider. foxtel? ah the list goes on... hoses, sprinklers....

Thats exactly right. But theres also the issue of strata fees. Some are cheaper than others. It all depends on the apartment block. More features means more fees. And also what suburb you're living in.

And I think you should stay at home until you have a better understanding of all the aspects of renting/buying..freehold/strata or torrens title..etc..etc.

I also wish to say that an apartment is a bad choice in terms of investment. So if you choose to move into an apartment, do so for the lifestyle...not for the long term financial benefits.

I aint anywhere ready for doing that

I just like to move out to a nice apartment one day and want to get some info ready thats all.

Just want to know what majority of apartments out there let you do

My place actually require a letter written to the real estate agents asking permission formally if you want to put a hook in the wall. :O

good one mate my old man only drinks midies so he sometime wins raffles at the pub and its heavy i always seem to be there at the right time. being out of home freedom but as all have said envelopes wit windows gotta lov em.

A short answer..if its strata title NO..if its torrens title yes.

Unfortunately the majority of apartment complexs are strata title which means you have to get permission from the body corporate to even fart.

Please do a google or talk to real estate ppl even your folks...or are you going to runaway.
